I came from a school where we were 99% white. Honestly the african american students couldn't do more to worsen their image than what they did in my school. They often got into fights with one another. Played rap music (which is fine but super stereotypical) and were a rowdy bunch even for teenagers.
I'm not racist but looking back on it. I've said some pretty racist things due to just not having contact with a lot of different races. I often make racist jokes now but I dont actually mean it. I find offensive and dark humor very funny.
Not that I recall, but I've had some teachers who were pretty bad in other ways.
I had some who appeared to be mentally disturbed in some sort of way, some who were clearly bullies back in school who weren't successful at bullying and harassing adults in the real world, so went back to school in order to bully and pull power plays on children, and also some who never really got over their high school glory days and so returned to high school in an effort to relive them and try to be "cool" and "popular" with a bunch of teenagers, usually engaging in BS cliquey behavior. Also several who were just lazy and didn't really want to do their jobs. None of them had any business teaching.
The principal at my grade school was fired for dragging a student into her office by the hair. She fell into the "former school bully who was too much of a coward to try anything with adults, so went back to grade school to be intimidating to a bunch of third graders" category, and got some sort of huge power trip off of bullying children.
I had one who would frequently have meltdowns and leave us unattended for long periods of time, when we were in KINDERGARTEN. Ugh, I'd really rather not get started on her, she was a total psycho. My other psycho teacher was my third grade teacher who made up blatant lies about me to my parents saying I was hitting other students, when in fact I had been hit and tried to report it to her, and she screamed at me to "quit tattling". When this was brought up in parent teacher conferences, she denied it and accused me of lying.
I had one teacher who forgot I was even in his class. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. He'd also just ramble on and nothing he said ever made sense. A lot of "Yeah, uh... so, uh, like... uh..." He wasn't necessarily a bad guy, but just very spacey and ditzy, and I'm not sure how he really got anything done.
I had a couple who were still stuck in the high school clique popularity BS and still thought they were 16, and treated the "popular" kids like gold and joined in on the teasing of the ones who weren't, or were just downright rude to them. I witnessed one laughing with her teacher's pet at a mentally disabled kid one day, reported it to the office, and of course, nothing was done because the entire town that school was in was extremely cliquey like that.
wtfff we had a teacher just like the one in the last paragraph who made life hard for the awkward and shy kids. Marriage lasted about six months? Tried to become social media famous through school too, like an influencer. As well as other awful types of teacher.
I'm sorry you had such mean teachers, especially the one in third grade. Did your parents believe you or the teacher?
Sounds like that teacher was crazy, lol!
It sucked having those teachers, but I got through it, so that was good! I learned pretty early on that not all teachers are great!
My parents thankfully believed me, because I was insistent about what had happened, and I had never hit any kids before and didn't just make up stuff like that.
It was the early 1950's when I started school so yes all my teachers were racist. They all just won World War ii and being in a war does tend to make rather patriotic.
I said, yes, but it’s not normal. Teachers should know better. When I was in Catholic school, we had an Afro-American girl in class for a while. She only lasted a shot while because none of the other girls would talk to her. When we exchanged Valentines, I and only a couple other boys sent her one. One day we were reading about Lewis and Clark, and each student was taking a paragraph. When it came to this girls turn, the nun skipped her, which I thought was odd. Then we got to a paragraph about the Blackfeet Indians, and the nun doubled back and made the black girl read it. Everybody including the nun snickered and the girl was humiliated. She left the school shortly after that.
Yes I had one call "wetback" just cause I was speaking spanish to my cousin who didnt speak english at the time..
No and personally all of my teachers were all strict, they were the no nonsense type of ones, this therefore means that no one in my school had ever been a racist. I have personally never seen a teacher who has been racist other than seeing some of them in the news. You could have the most shitty ones, but teachers are teachers, teachers are gonna be the most idiotic people in the whole wide world. In my opinion if they were racists then I would suggest to move schools because that way it is better, no one is gonna see racist teachers or have racist teachers.
No but I had some shitty ones. One teacher would call us students stupid etc she sent one guy out of class because he dropped his book on the floor and it made her hysterical, she said to another that he's stupid because he got an answer wrong well all kinds of things really. She got fired, but she'd worked there for years already so it took a long time for her to get fired even though students would often go and report directly to the principal how she behaved.
