Decapitation on the battle field in movies.

O.k You've all seen movies where the hero cuts the bad guys head clean off with his sword in one stroke. I just got into a major argument about whether in real life this is even possible. So tell me guys is the amount of head-rolling going on in these movies normal? Or are they accrediting their characters with impossible superhuman strength?

Backpacker murder Ivan Milat is believed to have beheaded one of victims with a single stroke.

I agree with Sierrahearts. The weapon used needs to be sharp enough. It's like the kind of bullet you use when shooting, some sizes do more damage than others.

I think that's why in Japanese history, swords were made with care and precision; so when it came to having to kill themselves in honor, it would be done in one swoop of a swords swing. (That is after the guy stabs himself with his Katana sword and his buddy is waiting with his sword to finish him off in case things don't finish as planned).

It's about as easy as slicing through a whole ham with one stroke. Saw a demonstration with that once, and it's not impossible, but very very difficult.

    Totally possible.

All you need is a sharp sword and enough strength = probably adrenaline and WHOOSH off goes the head.

    Easy to do.

i think if everything is right it could happen, that is, if the sword is heavy enough and sharp enough, the person swinging it is strong enough, of course, the victim has be be in the right position, sure, why not. that's alot of bone and such to slice through.

Not a guy lol, but I love history. It is possible to cut a head clean off... but thats if the victim is lucky enough to have a well-sharpened blade. I am mostly talking about executions that took place in public squares. Sometimes it took many times of hacking at the neck to actually get the head to come off--- not a clean and easy way to die. The crowd thoroughly enjoy these shows though. It was entertainment back then. I believe this is why they came up with Madame Guillotine. So in answer to your question it is possible, but it depends more on the blade than the actual strength of the person. (usually on a battle field the blade has been used over and over again so it would be dull.)
