Death penalty for child sexual abuse?

I mean, make no mistake - my feelings on this subject should be well-known by now, but even I'm inclined to suggest that people be willing to put away their torches & pitchforks and at least make a reasonable attempt to think rationally.

No because often these convictions are based on testimony with no evidence. My niece, after watching Titanic said a boy from her school drew her in the nude like Jack did with Rose. She just wanted attention like Rose got or something. But it never actually happened as the boy never once even came over.

It's a complicated issue. I would say give them lie detector tests but even they aren't permissible in a court of law as they're not incredibly accurate. I think we all can agree the crime is horrible, but we can't go around murdering innocent people purely based on hearsay. That's little more than what happened with The Salem Witch Trials.

However if there is evidence I would support a life sentence and possibly death penalty, but our courts don't work that way. A conviction can be made without evidence apparently in the US. So I am against the death penalty for any crime until crimes require evidence for convictions by law.

But I also think people should be able to be more open about fantasies that they have about children. Pedophilia is a mental illness that needs to be treated so things like child molestation/rape do not occur. If pedophiles are scared to talk about their feelings for fear of being killed or shamed, they'll keep it inside and that can cause their condition to worsen.

I agree. I think it is a less acceptable crime than murder. Murder can be justified in some cases (such as someone raping your kid) but child molestation never has any reason other than selfish perversion and is never justified.

YES! There is no reason to rape someone and there is no reason to molest a child. Raping a child is also worse than an adult since they ruined one of societies members before they can become part of society.

All rapists and child molesters should be executed. People like this are worthless to society and do nothing but ruin it and ruin the lives of the people in it. Killing can be sometimes excused for means of life-stock(cattle) and self defense.

There is absolutely no way to justify rape and molestation other than lack and self control. Someone with such a lack of control does not deserve to live around people. They are weak and they are worthless. They have no limits and so you can not let these people live around others. Anyone who cant keep it in their pants needs to be shot.

There are really two questions here.

1. Do child sex offenders "deserve" death in an abstract sense?
Some do, some don't. "Child sex offender" is really a pretty broad category.

2. Is it good public policy to execute child sex offenders?
No. It's not. I don't think capital punishment is every a good idea. The system makes too many mistakes. Did you know that two of the people convicted of horrific (and outlandish) abuse on flimsy to nonexistent evidence during the satanic panic were only freed about a month ago? That was a terrible miscarriage of justice, but at least they're still alive.

Another reason this in particular is a terrible idea is that child sexual abuse frequently happens within families. Most people, even many victims I suspect, would have extreme difficulty turning in a family member knowing that they might be executed. I mean, it's already under-reported, but this could only make it worse.

If the child survives the experience, it will probably be pretty screwed for many years, if not it's whole life. Perhaps a fate worse than death.

Look. Dig a hole about 20 feet deep and lined with cement. This hole should be somewhere in the artic tundra and capped with iron bars. Through the motherfucker in this (after a brief trial, of course) hole and just walk away and forget about him or her. The motherfucker should freeze to death before starving to death. Let the other inmates do it. If the molester is executed he gets a n ice neat death. Do you know what happens to pedophiles in prison? they are targeted and tortured. apparently even hardcore criminals don't like people who hurt innocent children. Maybe because some of those inmates were victims too.

My boyfriend (19) was labeled as a sex offender because he had nude photos of me (16). We were together for over 2 years. So no, I don't believe they deserve the death penalty.

I voted yes, even though I don't believe in the death penalty. "Deserving it" isn't really the point, it's still a flawed methodology. I would love to see the likes of Ian Watkins torn apart in the streets. Legally sanctioning it is a different story.

I was sexually abused as a child by a parent and I can honestly say I don't believe child sex offenders should be put to death. All cases are different. It's not all black and white. You can't put it all into one category and assume that all sexual predators are evil and are out to rape your kids.
I believe pedophilia is viewed today the same way homosexuality was viewed not too long ago. Even if a pedophile realised their sexual feelings for children were deemed wrong by society, he wouldn't be able to seek help without immediately coming under suspicion for having sexual experiences with a child. Many people don't realise that just because somebody is a pedophile doesn't mean they have sexually abused a child. Sexual predators that have committed crimes against children and are in special "rehabilitation facilities" will never NOT be attracted to children. There's no way to cure it. However, there are ways to prevent it. Most pedophiles were sexually abused as children themselves. Child sex abuse is far more common than anyone thinks. Education about domestic sexual abuse is lacking. Children are told to look out for strangers when the danger is in their own home probably 8 times out of 10.
People who rape children should receive a life sentence and be placed in a normal correctional facility. The whole idea of "protecting" them from other inmates is fucked up. If they make the decision to do the deed, they can suffer the righteous consequences.

Yes, anyone who does something to ruin an innocent, untainted life deserves to die. People don't even realise that the kids who suffer from child abuse, half of them end up messing up their own lives as well as the other's around them.

The death sentence is way too easy of a punishment. I cant think of a greater way to end suffering as by death.

Sex offenders of any description should be put to death, the statistics show that most of them can`t be rehabilitated, & while theyr`e at it, they should execute whoever brought these offenders up, because the way they were raised is what made them like that in the first place.
