Creeped out by mirrors when alone, in the dark, or showering.

I don't know what it is, but if I need to go the bathroom in the middle of the night, I am deathly afraid to look in the mirror. Same goes if after taking a shower, I don't want to wipe the condensation off, afraid that I might see something in the mirror. I think it's because of all the horror movies I use to watch. Anyway, is my fear too serious, or is it something that is just...whatever, and shrug it off?

I'm sort of the same way. Except I feel like I can't take my eyes off of the mirror because if I do something will appear and be there when I look back. When I'm washing my face before bed, if I can't open my eyes I start panicking because while they were closed something may have appeared behind me! I've opened my eyes before knowing I'd get soap in them just because I was panicking so bad.

I agree with many others here:

Caused by the fact mirrors are a favored subject in horror movies: Bloody Mary, Poltergeist etc.

Especially Poltergeist messed me up bad, I still got irrational fears from that cause I saw it when I was to young. Kinda makes me understand my mother never let me watch "It"

Anyway, it's normal. Try to do the steps PiAint names. Sounds like a good way to start!

Mirrors are favourites in horror movies,; there's something mysterious about them and they use that to scare you.

And now your imagination is running riot and you're running with it.

It's just doing it's job, of course, imagining things, feeding them to your conscious mind and letting you deal with whatever it throws at you.

Fear of things hidden in the dark's another one it'll throw at you.

I'm sure that you can rationalise the thoughts in your head usually, but, when it matters, you run with the fear.

These feelings won't go away on their own. You need to take practical steps to overcome these fears.

Have a close, trusted friend over to stay. Wait until dark and go around your house in the dark. Let your eyes become accustomed to it. There is nothing there to fear I promise. Go together to the bathroom. Talk about how you feel with your friend. Look in the mirror together. Turn the light on and off. The dark and mirrors are nothing at all to be afraid of.

And avoid horror movies for a bit.

its normal. there is a saying too many mirros in one room can bring bad spirits and bad into your life.
but that is a myth or just a story. i dno.
i hate how in my parents house there is a hugeee closet mirror! in every fkn room!!i hate it!!!!
anyways just try to be less scared. get a dog or something. or a cat. they will keep you company 24:7 and let you know if anything is there. it will help you be less scared when you have a dog or cat.

Yeah, you are pretty normal. It is just a fear, caused by something that disturbed you.

Ummmmm...i wouldn't say that's particularly normal, but it isn't going to fuck with your life too much either, so i wouldn't worry much about it.

Yup, it's the horror movies again. I'm the same way. Not as bad as I used to be, but it still creeps me out.
