Some years ago I visited a local bicycle shop (Owned by a husband & wife)to buy an inner tube. I got into a conversation with the owner who was very helpful. His wife was behind the counter in the shop area with their two kids (I'm guessing the kids were both under the age of 5).
About a week later there's a story in the local news... The nice bike shop owner killed his wife. To dispose of her body he used gasoline & tried to burn it. That didn't work out so he dismembered her charred remains and put them in separate garbage bags in a dumpster. Authorities later put the two kids in the custody of their maternal grandmother.
Outwardly they seemed like a nice young, happy family. It was so fucked up. It amazed me that someone can appear so nice & mentally stable then, poof! Psycho-killer.

KholatKhult has mentioned some illustrious Russian anti-heroes, but here's a story that combines a Russian with psychopathic levels of ego, a criminally stupid bet, and a criminal justice system that just doesn't give a shit:
It happened in the USSR back in 1986. Aeroflot Flight 6502 was flying from Grozny to Sverdlovsk when the pilot and co-pilot got into an argument about how good they were. The pilot bet that he could land the plane (which had a total of 94 people aboard) without the use of whatever electronic landing aids the plane had and without being able to see out the window. The co-pilot accepted the bet, so as they were lining up for the final approach, the pilot told the flight engineer to pull the curtains across all the cockpit's windows. As they descended, the ground proximity alarm went off and the control tower suggested a go-around, but the pilot ignored both. Eventually, the flight engineer reached the point where he decided that the insanity had to stop, and he opened the curtains in spite of this really pissing off the pilot. It was then obvious they were completely out of position, but too close to the ground to pull up. The plane landed very badly, the left wing hit the ground, and the plane flipped upside down and burst into flames.
As usual with the USSR and such events, the casualty statistics are questionable, but it seems that a total of 24 people survived. One of them was the pilot (the co-pilot survived the crash too, but he died of a heart attack while helping survivors evacuate the wreckage). The pilot stood trial - during which he freely admitted the bet and showed no remorse - and he served a total of six years in prison.
And on the theme of criminal levels of idiocy, there's Aeroflot flight SU593 from Moscow to Hong Kong in 1994. Contrary to all the rules, the pilot allowed his sixteen-year-old son to sit in the left-hand pilot's seat and his twelve-year-old daughter to sit in the co-pilot seat so they could pretend to fly the plane while it was cruising on autopilot. Unfortunately, the way the autopilot worked on the plane was that manually moving the flight control yoke for more than thirty seconds would partially disengage autopilot. The boy did this, and there was no audible alarm indicating that autopilot was no longer in control. What happened then is a little complicated, but basically the plane's automatic systems tried to compensate for the kid's movement of the yoke in such a way that the plane was eventually banked at nearly 90°. The G-forces of this high-speed, acute turn meant the pilot couldn't get back in his seat. No plane can maintain altitude while its wings are vertical, so the autopilot tried to lift the nose. This put the plane into a stall, so the autopilot put the plane into a steep dive, then the system basically said, "Fuck this, I don't know what the hell to do now, so it's over to you humans!" and completely disengaged. The pilot and co-pilot managed to get back into their seats, put the plane into an almost vertical climb, the plane stalled again, they completely fucked up the recovery, went into a spin and hit the ground at a vertical speed of around 160 mph.

The more infamous of the crime scenes Danny Rolling left behind maybe. The imagery is horrid.
