Is it normal for a couple to hardly talk to each other? And can they still be happily together though?

It depends.
Couples don't always have to do things together or have long conversations everyday to be considered normal or happy. Sometimes just being near each other while doing your own thing is nice too, because it gives you the freedom to be your own person while still being close to the person you love.
Now if the couple doesn't talk at all about anything, especially the relationship, then they're most likely unhappy, but afraid to be alone or struggle on their own (or both).
