Counting syllables

I used to compulsively count out the number of syllables in just about every phrase or sentence I heard in school on my fingers. Is it normal?

As long as that is your only obsessive habit, I wouldn't worry about it. It may be a mildly odd quirk, but it isn't ABnormal.

That's a really common symptom of obsessive-compulsive-like disorder. There are several varieties of it, and it can manifest itself differently.

But if it isn't disrupting your life, you don't really need to seek medical treatment if you don't want.
