Could this be a latex allergy, and is it normal?

Right, so basically, every time I have sex with my boyfriend (He's the first guy I've slept with), a few days later I get thrush. Not nice. I hate it, and it makes me feel so gross. This has happened about 4 times now, and each time I've had to get tablets to make it go away (Which are so expensive!)
Each time, we used a condom and haven't had unprotected sex. I'm thinking this could be some sort of allergy to the latex condoms, and we're going to buy non latex alternatives as soon as we get some more money, haha.

First thing you have to consider is why you're using condoms - mainly, are you using it for birth-control protection or for STD-protection, or both?

I ask because... if it's just for birth-control protection you might want to consider other options such as, using the pill, non-latex condoms, or lambskin.

Also - if he penetrates you without a condom as part of your foreplay you may need to consider that he could be part of the issue. People don't always realize this but... if you're treating a yeast infection (thrush) your partner could be a source of reinfection. So that may be something to consider.

I'm on the pill, and I'm on it in case the condom breaks or something happens. And my boyfriend has never done that. I'm also pretty sure that he doesn't have anything. >.<

I get that is sounds weird, but everything else has been ruled out really, which is why I think it might be an allergy. Lambskin.. it's an option but they're too expensive. >.<

You might want to consider talking to your doctor then.

You might also want to consider just using the pill alone. And if you're still worried, combine it with other alternative birth control methods such as pulling out or rhythm.

granted both "pulling out" and "rhythm" are known for failing as birth control... they may not be as bad since you're already on the pill anyway.

My plan was to go to the doctors after we try non latex ones, haha. That way I know that it's definitely not a latex allergy. I don't think I'd feel comfortable having unprotected sex, even if I am using the pill. It's infections I'm worried about. >.<

He is. Even if both people are clean, you can still catch something. D:

  • I agree with TheManagement. There are latex, spermicide, and actual sperm allergies.

If the condoms have spermicide that might be causing the problem... One of my ex's had a reaction to it in the past.
