Could lsd taken by cancer researchers lead to breakthroughs?

If a dose of LSD was administered to some leading cancer researchers in a controlled environment ...there would need to be audio/video recording equipment, and sober researchers to ask the right questions or create the correct back & forth dialog and also to keep things from going off on a tangent...(the same question could be asked about Mushrooms or Marijuana??? Would such an experiment with any of these 3 substances create breakthroughs in Cancer or other fatal disease research???

Cures are not suddenley thought up. You find a chemical or practice that has a small effect then slowly improve it through years of research until it's good enough and safe enough to put into practice.

Since real LSD 25 requires a chemist's lab and a great deal of knowledge to produce (but there's such a tiny demand, so it's not economically feasible), it is most likely not a drug any of you have ever had.
Certainly not the person who asked this question!
With a hundred or so trips on acid from reputable sources like Sandoz Pharmaceuticals and Owsley, I have a pretty good idea of how a person performs routine tasks under the influence of LSD 25.
Driving while high on the real thing is not something that should be attempted, but can be accomplished if absolutely necessary, if one has the ability to concentrate solely on what one is doing, forsaking all else.
One should not be around dangerous chemicals, lab equipment or expect whatever they scribbled in a note book while high to be legible the next day.
It is a very good drug for several mental conditions, if administered in a contained and monitored environment.
For pleasure, "guided" trips can vastly enhance the experience and it is definitely a great drug to have sex on.
But cancer research? Nope, I don't think it would help.

no ur an idiot the scientist would end up looking like the retards they are for taking such chemicals as lsd and exspect so great breakthrough

In terms of ideas, difficult to say. I'm more creative after alcohol but I'm also less able to concentrate on fine detail.

In terms of how things actually work, it wouldn't help, no. The way we undertake research where I work is that a proposal is made to test a particular hypothesis and then, if it gets ethical approval, funding is sought. The resource is spent over a year or two in testing the hypothesis and then the results are published. It's not really just one researcher sitting around trying to have ideas.

    Interesting question, though.

Honestly, I think it possibly could happen with any of these substances, but would it actually? Probably not. Because with all of these substances, things have a strong tendency to go off on some kind of tangent and that's just how this sort of thing is. Also, LSD (and also mushrooms to some degree) can be very dangerous and both are highly unpredictable drugs. With weed, the risks are generally much lower but still I don't think these things are really meant to provide these sorts of answers and if they did, science would have to prove whatever was produced or I am not buying it. When one takes these types of substances, they go on a journey within themselves which can take any turn imaginable for better and also for worse particularly within the case of LSD and mushrooms. However, with marijuana, I do think that sessions of high dose consumption with scientists of various types would be relatively safe and could lead to a lot of advancement in many ways. However, I would not say that use of the other two should be used for this purpose for a very long time that may come someday far, far in the future. The other substances possibly could be used by a small subset of people, but not for most people because of the risks associated with their use, which regardless of what anyone says, are significant.

  • Very, very hard to say. It could cause them to come up with great ideas or as you said, any of these drugs could easily cause your mind to go on a "tangent" where you forget all about the "task at hand". During these tangents, they would likely just get all introspective, start thinking about personal things, and just become annoyed by the person trying to keep them on task. However, they could potentially come up with something brilliant as well. However, I think the former is a more likely outcome

    No that's retarded.
    Marijuana on the other hand....

lsd and mushrooms arent meant to be a cure. there meant to help the patient deal with the depression, fear or anxiety that a termenal illness can give them.

I don't think giving a patient LSD or shrooms is a good idea if they have fear or anxiety.

Very true, but these are professionally controlled conditions, much different than the LSD or Mushrooms that you may have experienced that the OP is discussing. Still though, I do not think that at this point these drugs should be turned to at this point in time. Experiments that are conducted using these drugs should be used sparingly with a very small number of people chosen to them. Even with the Indians, it was not a free for with these kinds of drugs, maybe 1 person out of 20 would take them at the most. The vast majority would simply listen to the things the taker said. The same should be true in the world of science.

  • Possibly, but I don't understand the question. How would answering questions under the influence of LSD or any other drug cure, or find a cure for cancer?

i like this question. LSD or other mind altering drugs could possibly open their minds to new and creative ideas. they would be un-encumbered by mainstream ideas. i think it's entirely possible that if done in a controlled manner someone could think of something in a whole different way and have a breakthrough

Maybe, but it's quite unlikely and there is a possibility more harm than good could come of the experiments.
