Any time there is a situation of anarchy, it almost will immediately become a series of small authorities. It's human nature to gravitate towards a leader, or "one in charge". Whether it's the richest, or the one with the most food, or the physically strongest, etc... groups will quickly find a person to lead them, that person will have followers and people under his command.. that'll turn into a crude form of police as they destroy everyone who doesnt want him as leader... there will always be law as long as humans are involved.

I have always thought the same thing! Governments, society etc were all "formed" by anarchy at some point.

Absolutely not. Anarchy is based on the most idealistic idea that the little man knows what he needs and can think for himself. And that's very, very naive.

A herd needs a shepard and a guard dog. It nips them on the ass occasionally, but saves them from the real wolves.

What's wrong with making everyone think for themselves? Sheep have a shepherd because it is in the shepherd's interests to prevent losing any sheep. It's not necessarily in the sheep's interests.

I'm not making a point necessarily, just 'thinking aloud'

Fuck you OP, you need a fourth option:

"No, it's a nice theory, but won't work in practice."

I wouldn't want to kill off all the anarchists. :op

Capitalism doesn't work in practice, that doesn't stop us giving it a good go.

I agree, I dont think that anarchy is supposed to be the goal, but rather, its just the result of bad shit going down

  • I don't get what people mean by anarchy, do you mean chaos and destruction? If so then I would like to live in such a place but I know that it isn't the best thing for humanity.

My god, someone slap this man with a Bakunin booklet!

First off, one could say that Anarcho-collectivism is our standard operating procedure, seen in the customs of ancient West African, Aboriginal, and Polynesian customs. Now that they're all dead/converted, and the world is much larger, we have but a few options.

Individual Anarchy/Anarcho Primitivism: it seems trite, but it's still an option to run away into the jungle and build a hut.

Anarcho-Communism: I wouldn't try this with a population bigger than Alaska. Best in a series of small town collectives.

Anarcho-Capitalism: This is what some radical republicans (read: Tea Partiers) are moving for anyway.

The biggest obstacle for any form of anarchy is an agreement on currency. There is no way in the ten hells anyone is going to work for the good of all without incentive. Not on this planet, not now.

        tea party stuff....

to be honest most of that is BS that the liberals want us to think about the tea party... it's easier to ignore an opposing political view if you deride them and insult them.

for the most part, as a republican i just believe in LESS government intrusion into personal lives, not a total lack of government. why? Because every day the government tries to chip away at our freedoms and the constitution.

        examples:
second amendment. they're always trying to destroy that one

first amendment - look at the ACLU. They only support cases where their own political views are at stake. If say, the government shuts off all cell phone towers in an area to stop people from protesting ... the ACLU won't stop it, because the protests aren't in their political favor.

State's rights. That's a big one. The federal government IS trying to take control away from states. The latest one is the death penalty. Since they can't order states to change their stance, they're trying to block the use of drugs involved through the FDA.

So no, it's not about a desire for a lack of government... it's about preventing the government from turning into a dictatorship. It's suppose to be "by the people for the people" - not "the government decides what is right and wrong"

I hate these types of questions where the answers don't offer enough options. Like, there's too many factors ya know. How big is this community? Is this a homogenous culture? Like, are they all on an island and think alike?

How about Freetown Christiania in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Yes, and it's not that it's only for certain cultures or communities, it's that it is for a certain level of cultural maturity that I think could be achieved anywhere, but we are not that close to it yet anywhere to my knowledge.

    None of the above:

I think it wouldn't work for the simple fact that in order to have a stable society you need to have universal truths - things that all persons can agree on that should be laws... such as murder, thievery etc.

Without a common value system things would fall into chaos.
