Cost of rent canada

The cost of living these days is quite high. I've been on ODSP now for 4 years, which is a government support program for people with disabilities [I'm on it for DD (Disassociation Disorder)].

Recently I suffered from a minor injury, a scrap really that resulted in an infection. Through the error of the doctors judgement my resulting misdiagnoses has led to muscle atrophy, torn calve muscle, minor tendinitis, and acute tendinitis to the point I can no longer walk and am in a wheelchair.

I am awaiting an MRI, and the development of a pain therapy plan (nerve suppressants, muscle relaxers, magnesium supplementation, and anti-inflammatory cream mixed with rebhab and surgery) to understand the depth and scope of my issue as to date.

As it is now I can't get around my place, let alone cook or go for a piss. So I am going to have to find a new place. For years I could just go homeless for a bit, or couch surf and find cheap basement apartments allowing to have 600-250 left over for bills or groceries.

Now I absolutely need a wheelchair friendly environment so I am looking at high/low-rises and the alike which ballpark 850-900 for rent. I am barely getting by now, I mainly eat rice, pasta, potatoes as it is and where I can afford it misc veggies, fruits, and meats. So this move will result in only having 100-150 a month, which means foodbanks will be a huge asset.

The other issue is transportation cost as I can't walk and it is winter here. Maybe I can get a transportation fund due to medical reasons from my disability program, or wheeltrans I don't know. I've been living off a 100 dollars a month lately anyways cause of medical cost. ODSP won't cover all the cost of certain things, or take up to a year to rebate cost. So I recently spent 300 on a chair for example where I only receive 400 a month now.

Like is it normal things are this expensive? And why does the government not have better support programs. If you are fit and willing to compromise you can get a place for 450 and live pretty decently off 600 dollars. But in my condition money is just ether. Something is all ways coming up I have to pay for hospital cost, and recently my strained both my shoulders, and wrist so I can't even use the wheelchair.

I am like a vegetable, one arm is in a sling so I can kind of crawl with the other hand or maneuver myself in the hospital but I worried I am going to lose my other arm. Our government won't provide home care cause my place has stairs which is a danger to my health (ironic much, but is a liability reason on their behalf), another reason I have to move. The only option they provide is for me to become homeless and relocate to a shelter until housing can provide me with a suitable place which can take up to 3-5 years which I think would be worst living conditions then what I will have.

P.S. I know, i know things here are ranfantasic compared to other places in the world. And under normal circumstances I'd prob be dead. But maybe that'd be easier. Who knows. Thanks for reading.

Are there any disability service organizations you can access for advice or can help you locate a place that is suitable?

    • Yeah is housing but they take years as I said above to do anything with results. You just have to find a place for yourself and subsidize the cost out of your living expenses. Then they will compensate the extra for rent.
