Continuing dreams...

I'm a 20 year old male. For several years I've been having these dreams that I can only describe as being a sort of continuation of an adventure, the details of which are trivial. Not all of my dreams are part of this series, and in fact they are quite rare, occurring maybe once every few months or so. They always involve a set few of recurring characters (one of which is played by me), with the occasional addition of new ones. Both the plot and characters involved in these dreams, as far as I can recall, are unrelated to anything I've seen, read, or heard about. And although I am a creative person by nature, most of the events occurring within these dreams seem far beyond what I could imagine with my conscious mind. I guess my question is; Does anyone else experience a similar sequence of dreams?

yes...the same thing has been happening to me.

I wonder if you & I are having the same dream at the same time, and both of us are in it, and neither of us knows the other....

...maybe i am in it too ;D.

I have been having the same thing, sometimes i wake up go to sleep and continue the dream, and sometime a week later, the events that happened in my dreams, are kind of in my memory and like my life story in a later dream...hard to explain. for me its not rare, my dreams just continue, with similar places, feelings, etc... In my dreams, sometimes I am not even myself, but someone else.

I am facing the same thing. I was able to remember what happened in my earlier dreams very well in my dreams. i just realized that it had been continuing once i woke up middle of the night. Is there a cure for it?

I don't normally remember my dreams - but this has happened to me as well. It's a little different though because it has only happened once. I had a very detailed dream that I remembered every single detail to. Then about 5 or 6 years later I had another dream that seemed to continue where the other one left off - almost like a sequel or something. It was very bizarre.

The same thing happened to me last night. Very bizarre yes. I knew exactly right then that I already had that dream. It started off as like a recap of what happened the last time and then went on to its own sequel. Truly amazing.

Yeah, I've had this for over a decade, but it really picked up about 3 years ago. Most of my dreams are a continuation of this complex story, and it's strange, because I have my own character and everything. I know when I'm dreaming this story because my perspective is always first person; I never see myself unless through a reflection. These dreams, their characters, and story seem to be something I could never think up, and don't seem to be related to anything in this world or going on in my life.

It used to scare me and I thought something was wrong with me, but I've learned to get used to it. It's not so bad, and is actually quite interesting. It feels like another world entirely and I'm quite curious to see how it plays out.

In my opinion, this phenomena might not be common, but not necessarily wrong or abnormal either. You should only start to worry if these dreams begin to effect your waking life, such as seeing this stuff while awake and negative behavior stemming from the dreams.

Omg! This is the perfect post! I'm having continued stories of my nightmares for the past years. I didn't mind to search about it because I thought it was normal, but now I actually tried to go and look if there are others who experience the same. Also, I was bothered because my Monday nightmare and last night was a continued story and the scariest of all the continued stories I have had.

It is so scary that I woke up almost crying. It is not Lucid dreaming because first, I cannot control it, second is that the place and characters are unfamiliar, and the next scenes are not familiar. It is like a movie, really.

But I have searched and no one has the answer as to what it is called. I am extremely bothered by this.

No, something weird is going on. I've been having the same continuation of a dream for about 2 years now. If it's "normal" then I guess I'm losing my mind then. It takes place in the southwest where I'm at. Someone did something to really mess up what's going on in our heads obviously. I don't get a bad feeling from these dreams, I know that it was someone that died and passed on all of the memories to the rest of us that are receptive. By the way I found the cemetary dream very disturbing.

i always have very vivid dreams. sometimes i question my memories, whether they are real memories or are they from a dream? sometimes i can remember my dreams from a long time ago better than i can remember my foggy existence. just recently i started getting this dream.. one object in it was a doctors/lab coat. two days later i got a random bag of clothes from a friend and on top was a lab coat. she doesnt even kno where she got it from. two nights later i had a continuation of the dream... more like opening up and exploring other details in the dream that at first i dont know if i was oblivious to... didnt look at... or maybe details that werent meant for me to unravel yet. another character in my dream was my manager at work. we put on lab coats together and she was showing me this hospital. after a few more different days of getting this little mini series in my sleep. i was told at work that id be getting a promotion to manager. ill be training soon... however i have my doubts about this place (real life) at my job (burger king) and my dream has kinda been pushing me to take it...
kinda unrelated but still relevant to the question, i think. i had a dream about "jean st." i wrote it down in my dream. when i woke up it upset me so bad... dying animals... i was walking thru feces water... gross... well it bothered me so bad i had my bf drive me across town to "jean st" and there was a dog with his head chopped off in the canal. animal control thought i was just crazy and took the dog and left, totally ignaring the house... cus they wont do anything on "hunches"
so in coinclusion..... maybe your dreams are telling you something. check out a dream dictionary and look into all the details. dreams can have all sorts of ways of explaining things... even abstract

I'm not sure if it is normal but i have had the same type of dream. I actually had it earlier today and that is how i ended up here. I also think of myself as creative person but the dream i had is not only more complex than any other dream i have ever had, but the fact that my mind came up with it is astounding.
There are people I wouldn't have thought of let alone dream about, people who i have made up entirely who I don't believe that I know in person. There are places that have a connection to the real world that i experience, but its like my brain took different parts of various places and then shoved them all together in one location.

I have had dreams that have continued every few months or so, but the dream i had today was a continuation of a dream i had almost 6 years ago. The thing is the dream continues only 1 year from the previous dream. In the dream i have i think i'm at a summer camp and i'm a bunch of my friends that i normally hang with, and others i don't know but who i am very friendly towards. I always seem to be running around going from one end of the camp to the next, looking for a girl.

I wonder if there is any meaning to these dreams? they say all dreams have meaning but do you have to wait until the dream finally ends to find it? I wonder if they have a name for these types of dreams?

I have had heaps of dreams that are linked or are continuing and the weirdest thing is they're in places I ve never seen before. Sometimes there are people I know from real life but sometime not and the people I dont know from real life I seem to be very familiar with in the dreams....

    hey dreams are strange things.

your brain probably made them up, because your brain is more active when you sleep than when you're awake. Weird right?!

but that's not the point. Since I was...errr...maybe 6, I've been having the SAME DREAMS over and over, until I "solve" them, or don't die. I've had one about a dragon, one about princesses, all very different but I've had them continuously. Once I solve them, they're done.

dreams you have are supposed to be based off of things you've seen, heard, imagines, etc., but maybe you and I are together on this.

I've had dreams with people I don't know. People I've never seen in my life, and trust me, with some of them, I'd remember. Also, I never forget a face. Names, oh yes, bunches! But never faces. I too have a very creative mind. As I said, during sleep, your brain is more active, so you're more imaginative.

I write. All the time. I make up characters, and what they look like. In my dreams, I probably make them up too. Try to think of what your dreams relate to that you do everyday.

anyway, dreams are all weird, there is no dream, by definition, that is "normal".

I've new here and have been asking myself for years the same questions.I havent had my favorite dream in a while but and miss it dearly. Mostly because I cant wait to find out what's next. I know there is def. a reason for it but just dont know why yet. I have a dream/s where im in a town made of adobe houses Im walking down hill on a cobblestone road and come to a hut where there are three men inside having a bonfire. the men are all wearing robes like a priest would wear. Im also wearing one as I walk down the the town streets with a hood on almost as if I dont want anyone to know I'm there. when I walk in to this adobe house or hut. the men say theyve been expecting me. I know they are going to tell me something important but have no idea what it is. This is as far as I've gotten... someone please provide sum input. I'm 28 Married and have a lil girl. this dream has been going on for almost 9 years.

i have reccuring dreams about a cursed mirror. me and whoever else is in the dream try and get rid of it because it causes havoc, and in the end we always think we've managed to lose it forever. but it keeps finding its way back. fucking mirror.

You have a wonderfully creative mind. I have very intricate dreams that are like plays with plots, subplots and costume changes. I love them.

I've not experienced a link in terms of storyline, but there have been strong links in theme and familiar locations turn up now and then.

Absolutely. The exact same thing happens to me --- and has been for about ten years. Same people. Same town. Same houses. Same laws of physics --- i.e. I don't fly. No flying people or cars, seemingly normal passage of time, etc. When I've "Been gone for awhile" someone will invariably ask, "Where have you been?". These "Dreams" are extremely vivid and realistic, as well.

There was actually a pretty decent film, "Passion Of Mind" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0160644/), starring Demi Moore, that touched on this very subject matter. It was recommended to me by a friend to whom I told my story.

Maybe we should all start a club? Hmmmmm...

I experience this a great deal. I am always curious about what it might mean. I have come to many of my own conclusions. But I certainly think there us something to it.
