Constant dreams of suffication

ohhkay, so constantly ive been having dreams of someone choking me, trying to sufficate me. but the thing is i can NEVER see who is doing it because they are always behind me and i can never move in the dreams, like i try 2 move and hit the person or turn around or even just try and break free of thier hold but i can never move whatever i try. also when i have the dream they are so realistic because it always happenes where im sleeping at, no matter where i am. i always try and force myself 2 wake up but its nearly impossible and its a horrible situation and very uncomfortable. and i always wake up in a panic. is this normal?

Omg that's scary, I had a dream that I went through a portal and landed on the moon. I was suffocating from the lack of oxygen, and it was an absolute horrible feeling, almost like drowning.

I have a similar issue now and then. And I think it affected me quite badly. I sometimes wake up and not know who or where I am at all, with a feeling of panic and dread. But, I believe the cause is lack of oxygen, it feels as if I've been holding my breath and need air, and my body wakes me up as a survival instinct. I'd have lots of dreams where I was underwater (do you?)

Do you snore a lot? I do, somehow I think it's related.

But I found the solution was to NEVER sleep on my back. It used to be how I always slept. But since sleeping on my side (not you also don't snore on your side). I've not had this problem, except on occasion, where I've probably shifted onto my back.

Give it a try and see if it works.

I think it's a form of sleep apnea by the way. I looked into that for similar reasons as you. Just, I'm crap at talking to doctors. So I've never been diagnosed.

You could have been suffocated to death in a past life... if you believe in that, it's very possible that if your consciousness lives on that your mind could reproduce that event in the form of a dream... quite often I think about that possibility, unable to remember specific details about the dream.. just a thought...

Huh, didn't think of the sleep apnea thing. That is really interesting. If there is not something physical going on, I would take a good look at what stressors you are dealing with (or not dealing with) in your life. You need your conscious self to take care of these issues, and then I imagine the dreams will stop. Try keeping a journal, one that describes your dreams and your life so that you can try to piece together the root of your nightmares.

Dreams are dreams and any scenario in one is normal...BUT... you may look into doing a sleep study. You can set one up with your doc. Some people that suffer from sleep apnea have suffocation dreams and wake up in a panic. Wouldn't hurt to get checked out. Good luck.
