College is not working for me

i've been going to community college since i graduated high school in 2008. So that makes 4 semesters at my college and i can safely say that i basically failed most of my courses.
I am not uninterested in the courses that i take and i actually have a want and need to intellectually expand my mind but i never get anything done and always end up failing most of my courses because i don;t do the work.
For example, i love art and i took art 101 last semester and failed it because i didn't show up to some classes and didn't participate in class as much. But i love different art styles and art history and drawing and whatnot.
I enjoy the idea of reading and learning but i cant seem to just sit down and study for an hour or two. Instead i find ways to do other things...preferably smoke pot and hang with friends. And whenever an exam comes up and i fail it i feel really bad and disappointed in myself for not doing as well as i know i could. Am i just being a lazy asshole even though i truly appreciate learning and becoming smart?

...sorry for the long post, mine usually are this way.

I also went to community college on my sixth year and finally graduating this fall. I still have no idea what I want to do. Smoked pot for five years and stopped about a year ago still no change. It will hit you one day what you want to do hopefully it will hit me soon. Some are late bloomers for career paths

It's not normal but on the other hand it is.

Humans tend to be lazy, that's the normal part

The not normal part is that you throw away the chances you have, I went to college too but got kicked out due to my handicaps (ironically it was college for handicapped people) and now my chances for getting a job are almost 0. So grab your chance and get your ass down there ;).

Are you ADD? You also may running
low on maturity. Think about your future and how fortunate you are to have the opportunity to go to college. It's a great privilege.

My brother flunked out of high school in twelve grade because he chain smoked pot. He told me when he smoked pot it made him unconcerned about his school and unable to focus.
I am guessing you're not stupid, and you know the effect drugs have on people. I think you know how to turn things around - kick the pot habit.

  • Yes, you really are just being lazy.

I don't know how you can afford to go to school and just throw it away like that. Were you spoiled as a child?

If you are fine with having crappy jobs with crappy employers for the rest of your life, while you live in low-income housing, then don't take advantage of the opportunities that college can bring you.
