Ah shit, this reminds me I need to book flights.
I'm going to Sydney for xmas with family. There will be lots of bitching, fighting, tears, backstabbing, and so on. I was looking forward to spending it alone in my apartment with NO ONE ELSE. Sigh.
No, I'm not looking forward to it. I will probably call my aunt a cunt again. She deserves it, but it will upset my grandmother, who doesn't deserve it.
My favourite part about Christmas is actually giving a really bad ass present to someone. That's so fucking gay but you know what. FUCK IT.
I am kind of excited for the holiday season! It's so close I can taste it!! I don't have a reason to be excited. My holidays usually suck but I think this year will be THE YEAR.
Come stay with me! We can run away from both our crazy families! Wheeee!
Deal! WEEEeeee!
I can either go to my dad and girlfriends ( would be a living hell) , my brothers and mom's ( then I might hurt my dad's feelings but I guess I could do both -_- grr I'm stressed out just thinking about it.) or possibly my aunt's in Canada.
Ugh :( It sucks having to try to please everyone else. I want to stay at home, but my grandmother hasn't forgiven me for moving out two years ago, skipping xmas would be like spitting on her face :-S
Your aunts sounds like a good option...both sounds waay too stressful :(
Hmm... don't like how it's so heavily commercialised. There's also this ridiculous amount of pressure on families to have the best time. Personally, I'm not religious, but I feel that it's moved so far from it's religous roots that it's almost just become an excuse for a party! Which is fine in a way, but is it a bit disrespectful to those who are religious and do celebrate it for religious reasons? I think the whole story (because that's what it is) is a load of tosh but that doesn't mean I don't have respect for those who choose to believe it. Also, what's with all the Christmas/Xmas hype starting in October (or even Sepetember in some cases!) Madness. We come back to the commercialisation aspect....
Its a business. Corporations make money off the sheeple who worship some 2,000 year old hippie cosmic-zombie (Jesus) and a FAT disgusting bearded man who would otherwise be dismissed as a homeless bum on the streets
Besides families in reality hate each other and pretend to be nice to each other by buying petty gifts to one another, and your grandma makes everyone delicious eggnog except you, saying you are the "black sheep" of the family well FUCK YOU GRNDMA!!
as is evident, I despise the holidays. The only exception is Halloween
Christmas is a business for those who do not take Christmas seriously, and of course masses of people have grown accustomed to this holiday for reasons other than celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.
By the way, your way of talking is a first class ticket to hell. Families do not in reality hate each other. It is obvious from your comment that you are making generalisations based on your family.
Halloween is a 'holiday' which was created in order for those who rule the world to manipulate large masses of people into worshiping satan and live indecently.
You know, I know you religious nutters don't like science and facts and what-not, but Jesus was NOT born on December 25. In fact, many people state that it is believed that Jesus was born in a warm month, possibly March. The date of December 25 was picked as the time for Christmas because of the Winter Solstice.
You and your religion can kiss the seat of my pants.
You know, your opinion is just a general statement. You don't know when he was born, so you can say whatever you want. Funny, you don't believe in God but you still talk about Jesus having been born.
I don't like Christmas because of the repulsively overwhelming amount of "Christians" who celebrate it through painstaking means, although they don't go to church, nor act like good Christians.
Celebrations of Christmas. A ticket to Heaven.
I hate to be the one to say ''Bah humbug'' but anyways....''BAH HUMBUG!''
I lost my ''Christmas spirit'' if you will. Commercialism and the fact that every radio station and every store is shoving Christmas (and Christmas music) down my throat everywhere I turn, really turns me off. Long lines and ''Black Friday'' is modern consumerism at it's best, and it really irks me. Even now at my RIPE OLD AGE of 22, lol...I only really like Christmas for one thing: Family. I don't even really care about the presents anymore.
And that is the precise reason why Thanksgiving is now my favorite holiday.
Meh. Lost all excitement for things like Christmas and birthdays a long time ago.
Why are you celebrating the birth of a man who lived about 2,000 years ago, on the incorrect date?
It is true that many cultures traditionally celebrated the Winter Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, in many different ways. It is also true that several religious organizations (principally the church in Rome) usurped, corrupted and distorted these traditions. It is also true that more recently, several corporations (notably Coca-Cola Inc., others followed later), also usurped, corrupted and distorted these traditions.
I'm all for tradition. Perhaps we should bring back and celebrate the tradition of Nicholas of Myra. He was best known for being the patron of prostitutes and sailors, if you know what I mean. We could also celebrate the Austrian tradition of this person and season, and run around town, beating children.
Perhaps, we could also revive other traditions, such as throwing beautiful young virgin females into volcanoes in order to appease the deities. We could also reinstate the tradition of enslaving persons from several different tribes and using them for forced labour and sometimes sexual gratification.
Everything I had said is true. Those people all took these traditions very seriously.
It seems to me that you have bought into this corporate-religious tradition, hook, line and sinker. You might even continue to teach children and others to buy into this nonsense.
I have no qualms if you wish to celebrate the Notthern Hemispheric Winter Solstice or the Southern Hemispheric Summer Solstice at the correct time (you can easily look this up). Same goes for New Years (which is really a meaningless date because of an error by Pope Gregory XIII).
I also have no qualms, should you wish to celebrate the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, but to the best of our knowledge, this date is probably Sept.15th by the Gregorian Calendar.
Perhaps you should not speak of serious issues in a haphazard way in future. We should all strive to become more knowledgeable on such things. These so-called traditions that you speak of, are perpetuated by persons like you. These practices contribute to an unsustainable future, which will cause harm to everyone. This should not be taken lightly.
I'm indifferent at the moment. It's way too soon for me to start caring about it.
I just want it to be over with. I hate this "you have to spend time with your family even if you hate their guts" message that holidays always spew out. No. I don't WANT to spend time with my family. I want to spend the day alone in my room watching TV and giving a nice big middle finger to the world. Fuck ALL holidays. Especially Christmas.
