Cheerleading is a sport

hate to admit it; but i think cheerleading is probably one of the craziest things ever.

Massive amounts of cardio, basically weight training..... if your a bottom, not to mention the mental part of it all.

You have to compete in front of thousands of people wearing little to nothing, with obnoxious make-up and hair, screaming at the top of your lungs.

just watch it, the gymnastics is amazing and the flyers do things that are will damn near kill you.

at the end of a cheer routine your pretty much pooched.

i posted this because everywhere you go someone will ALWAYS tell you that cheerleading isn't a sport and i would like to say.... yah right. try it for yourself. Is it normal to feel like this?

Practically EVERYONE thinks cheerleading is just pom poms & saying "Go team Go" at football games is why they say it's not a sport. I would agree.

But if you're talking competitive cheerleading, which you probably are. Then YES it is a sport.

Gymnastics is a sport, isn't it? Judges decide the winners and sometimes gymnastics is done not for competition but for exhibition? Cheerleading seems like synchronized gymnastics to me.

Not a sport. Just because you feel like you get a work out, and try to make a dance look good while shooting out- "let's go team" doesn't make it a sport.

Cheer is a sport. Get your fat asses out there and try to do backflips. You have no idea what you are talking about.

up thru middle school i didn't consider cheerleading a sport, then in highschool i became the only male cheerleader at my school and let me tell ya, it's definitely a sport, the competition side of it at least, which most schools do. i can see why people who just go to football games and see a bunch of girls chanting wouldn't consider it a sport but they don't know all the time and energy spent getting into shape and perfecting a competition routine. and the conditioning and weight training it takes to be a top tier cheerleader. in high school i wasn't in too much of shape before joining cheer and just practicing the dances over and over and over would tire me more than anything else i did. and now i am in awesome shape.

Cheerleading is considered to be one of the worlds dangerous sports, a list that also includes scuba diving. I don't know what to think of it except that too dangerous and silly to even be worth it.

Morons only consider football, basketball, baseball, ect. to be sports. They often have no idea how much strength training and grueling work cheerleaders and gymnasts do.

I'm not sure as to whether it is a sport or not, but what I will say is just because something is physically demanding does not necessarily make it a sport. Would you say doing weights or using the cross trainer at the gym was a sport?

I totally agree with you. I'm a cheerleader and there is a lot of hard work put into one day of cheer practice. It tests your physical strength and mental. And anyone who says it's not a sport should try it for themselves. You'll be amazed!!

I guess I don't see how competitive cheerleading and gymnastics are not sports. I have seen it on TV several times and it does appear to be very physically demanding. It may be unfairly categorized due the obvious femme roots, but like child birth appears to be, it is physically daunting and should be given the respect for what it is. Besides that, I believe some males also participate in competitive cheerleading, so it is not just for the ladies.
