Caucasian babies are afraid of my face.

I am actually half White and half Asian. I also have a tan, so I look a bit...erm, Hispanic.

I am nice, friendly, gentle, and always smile at them. Non-White babies have no problem with me at all.

But if white baby is near me, it get very scared, whines, and hugs the "lighter" colored person. Then it goes and loves more white people.

This is really sad. These babies are starting to make me feel ugly.

Is it normal for babies to react this way to me?

You shouldn't put so much stock in the opinions of babies. Who knows what they're reacting to?

    HAHAHAHAH
sorry not to laugh at you, but with you..
I dunno, you might be imagining things, these days people are pretty accepting. I grew up not even registering a difference between people because of race..
One time when I was like four I pointed out a "fat man" to my mom, quite loudly and right in front of him. My mom was mortified and apologized.. I guess it depends on how your children are brought up, but they don't really know about social rules.

im asian and thats never happend to me, mabey cuz their mothers shove their faces in the baby's face so much, the baby finds it difficult to accept something different

that's totally normal for a baby, especially if a person is really dark skinned, the baby might be afraid of him. he's not used to seeing someone so different and it shocks his system.
but he might get over it with time, like if he saw that person more often or something, i think.....

Oh my gosh, don't worry about it! You probably just startle the child/baby because your skin isn't the same as "mommies" and "daddies"

I was the same way. Growing up, I lived in a fairly white neighbourhood. I was maybe 3-4 when I saw my first African American individual. I remember being with my mom, we were going to the corner store when I saw him, and I started screaming and crying and asking my mom why that man was "burned in a fire"

He looked offended but hey, I didn't know any better. I wasn't used to it. So yeah, don't stress it.

I wouldn't base too much of your self-esteem on babies. They can't even recognize themselves in a mirror.

I looked after a baby last year who was half Caucasian, half Sri Lankan. She would SCREAM if anyone dark skinned (except her mother and her mother's parents) went near her. I mean, she'd scream when anyone other than her parents, grandparents or me went near her...but she'd really lose it over darker skinned people, even her mum's relatives she'd see weekly. Her father's relatives she saw maybe monthly, not such a strong reaction. Her mother was a little offended. But then her mother was completely mental.

Try a William Shatner mask like Michael Myers wore, it'll give you the whitest face for the least effort. Or go to clown school, they'll teach you to apply whiteface. (And we know ALL normal kids like clowns, right? It's only the ones who grow up to go to college or be weird artsy-fartsy intellectuals who don't.)

  • maybe they are not used to seeing darker people because all of their family is the same colour so it is diffrent and strange for them x my mum told me when i was a baby i cried becoz i was scared of her tights lol

Babies do react to differences in people. I think it is a survival mechanism so that they can identify their own and stay with their pack. Nothing wrong with you, though. Don't sweat it.

I think it's normal, but I actually felt really awful for you when I read that.
It must just make you feel like a total freak, which you really aren't, at all.

  • You are over-generalizing. When babies do that its sometimes called "making strange." It is not about you at all.

I've got the exact same thing- except I'm Caucasian. I keep getting told I'm handsome/looking good/get hit on but evidently caucasian babies think differently than most women and some men.

It must hurt your feelings, but its normal for kids. Children naturally like first- the color of their and their parents skin and second- good looking people.

Don't be shy. I think it's important a baby is exposed to diversity.

If the mother of the babies are white than its a good chance that say they could racist. Even though they may not understand it yet, they will be when all grown up.
