Car starting system trouble?

A guy we know has had 4 different cars and he has had the starting system fail on all 4. I think he must be doing something like maybe he holds the starter after the engine has started. But he must be doing something to make them fail right?

    Starters are typically the first thing to go out on a car. Bad habits like holding the ignition switch too long can make them go out earlier. Probably a combination of both factors.
