Can you love a country for it's food?

I was browsing Reddit and a moderately upvoted comment caught my eye. The comment said, "I hate people who say they 'love Japan' when they actually meant they like their anime and food but know nothing of their culture."

So my question to you guys is... can I love Japan for their sushi? Can I love Italy for their lasagna? Can I love Canada for their poutine? Can I love Mexico for their tacos? Can I love Hong Kong for their dumplings? Can I love Greece for their moussaka? Can I love IKEA for their swedish meatballs?

i was in korea a few years ago and asked a local where to get dinner

he told me about the burger king and the kfc locallly as i was in busan

and im like what the fuck dude i didnt come all this way to eat that garbage i want proper korean barbecue ffs

anyhow he coordinated with some other handlers and we did end up at a top rated place which was just incredible

japanese are always like enjoy the subtlety of taste while koreans blast your face off

Gatekeeping liking a country is lame-o behavior.

I tell everyone that I like France. I can’t tell you a single fact about France, not one. I just think French people are “cool”. I thought London was in France up until like 3 years ago.

All the “true Japanese fans” are just 30 year old neckbeards with a katana and a porn addiction, I wouldn’t take anything they say seriously

The bigger problem is when you hate a country without knowing much about it.

Japan beat the shit out of my understanding of a cream puff. Best in my life. Sushi wise? Honestly their cheap sushi is way, way worse than the cheap sushi I've had in america.

I love Japan because of takoyaki, ramen, miso soup, ochazuke, mochi, sushi, chicken katsu, korokke and a lot more I'd imagine when I go there it tastes way better than how I make it.
