Can you catch oral herpes from genital sex?

Someone I like very much explained to me that their previous partner had infected them with oral herpes. He has made advances at me towards sex but won’t pressure me unless I’m really comfortable. He says he won’t use his mouth or kiss me and will keep his mouth to himself. I still don’t trust it. I feel like somehow something can happen and I could end up with HSV2. But then I also hear that oral herpes are just cold sores which affect most of the population. I’ve never ever gotten a cold sore in my life and wouldn’t want to get them now just because I decided to have sex with him. What’s the real difference between oral herpes and cold sores?

    You probably should have had more than "nah" or "yes" for the choices. I would really suggest you go to a trusted website like WebMD to research those. Something like that can affect the rest of your life. A relative of mine got genital herpes. It's the gift that keeps on giving. Think smart and make the safest choices for yourself.

    I agree with CDmale4fem: you should spend some time learning about HSV from credible websites. IIN doesn't really qualify as one of those.

    If you're determined to never be exposed to the HSV-1 virus, you're going to need to be very lucky, since around 50% of Americans between 14 and 50 have the virus. I had cold sores as a kid, and they really weren't anything other than an uncomfortable annoyance.

    More than 10% of Americans between 14 and 50 have HSV-2, so it's not all that uncommon either.

    Also, most HSV infections are asymptomatic (there are no externally visible signs of the infection), so it's very possible for someone to have HSV-1 or HSV-2 and not be aware of it. Indeed, it's possible that you already have HSV-1 and just don't know it.

    Idk if you can get it or not. Id ask a doctor. Also maybe you shouldnt have sex with him unless you are going to have a long term relationship. Because you dont want to end up without a boyfriend/husband and have herpes.

      WTF. You are kidding right? It has nothing to do with hygiene. It has everything to do with casual sex. Doesn't matter how hygienic you are. The more people you sleep with the more chance you have of catching something. Condoms will only partially protect you. Good hygiene will do nothing.
