Can't deal with arguments

It might be because I had a childhood full of shouting but I just can't deal with them if it's something i've done wrong. If i know an argument is coming i'll have a knot in the stomache fot the rest of the day then when it comes it's like the worst thing in the world. unproportunatly. I either fight back tears, get choked up or remain quiet go somewhere after and ball my eyes out. IIN?

    • Even with family members? I've done something and am waiting for my brother to finish work at yell at me.
I get its not meant to be enjoyable but I'm an adult and I've got a knot in my stomach looking at the clock.

I am, in a sense, the same way.

I grew up in a household with a lot of shouting and my way of adapting was to calm down and be cool. I shut it out, basically. Nowadays, I'm the same way. If someone argues with me I tend to either just shut down or get very angry.

I want to say that it will get better but it hasn't for me. My tolerance for interpersonal conflict is low.

I used to have the same exact problem, now not so much. I do, however, try to avoid arguments with people, especially strangers. Nowadays, an argument can sadly turn violent and even potentially dangerous.
