Can't control thoughts?

Sometimes I want to think something. But that something goes wrong in my head. It then becomes impossible to think what I wanted to in the first place.

For example. Back in school I used to like this girl. So one day I was daydreaming that I'm riding my bike very slowly beside her so that we're "walking" together. But I always get a few seconds in before my mind has me tipping over on my bike. I just can't seem to stay on.

I also have (mild?) ocd, where I keep checking if my door is locked. So when I try to imagine in my head that turning the knob and pushing will NOT open the door, instead I keep imagining that it WILL open.

I just can't seem to get my mind to think what I want. Normal?

    Scary..that sounds exacltly like me..!! I made a research about OCD & it says that it could run from the family. You cant never cure it but you can control your thoughts. A lot of people has ocd or mild ocd. So its normal. What works for me is i keep a journal.

  • not sure if it's normal but it's the same for me too. i thought maybe it was because i'm paranoid or something...but now i think it might be something else

    You are just like me. I think I may have had mild ocd when i was a kid, if I touched something with my one hand or foot, I had to touch it with the other side, then I did it the opposite way so the second side had a chance at being first.

    god, i hate it when u wanna do something in ur thoughts, and everytime, the thing u DONT wanna happen, happens, s'like a twitch or something stupid that u just can't control.... BASTARD >< hate it...

      IT KILLS!!! MAKES ME FEEL INSANE AT TIMES!!! SENDS ME INTO ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION!!! If the thoughts are something that I feel extremely horrible, I'll start panicking and obsessing over whether I really meant to think it or not but then freak out at the thought itself. It makes me indecisive, very excitable, and HIGHLY cranky!!!

    Learn to meditate. You can control your thoughts but it takes practice. Learn to relax and trust your own judgment. Try to avoid medication. They do more harm than good.

  • i check my door loads of times before going to bed too its just been safe and assured. As for the keeping train of though maybe try focusing games like suduko or chess every now and again and exercise your brain more

    You should see a psychatrist if this is bugging you that much, not because you're crazy, but because they may be able to help you with it or give you some medication that may help.

    Before I took anti-depressants, I could not stop overthinking. It really sucked, all the what-ifs, it's kind of weird thinking about it now.

    I have no idea if it's normal or not; but it happens to me, if that helps.

    Not necessarily the same actions, but it does.
    Mostly with me not wanting to do something in my thoughts;
    but then doing it anyway.
