Can mathematics actually be a cause of sickness?

I don't mean the phrase - I mean, actual sickness. For you see - the site of numbers make me feel like vomiting or actual makes me vomit a little. They kind of get mixed in my head and I can't concentrate then there are light flashes and whispers in my head. The numbers turn into something else entirely and I can't tell what they are or how they function.

With school, sometimes the thought of it makes me cramp up and start to scream involuntarily. Now, I'm not an emotional person or anything besides this. This might seem slow, but I'm starting to think that not everyone goes through this - I had thought virtually everyone did.

Any suggestions?

Have you always had problems with mathematics? I don't believe that mathematics can cause any form of illness / apart from that I believe numbers to be wonderful :)

Maybe u've had a bad experience with them and that causes this fear/confusion. Mathematics is far too important and you have to deal it in your life if you wish to get somewhere.

I mean, I can theorize up many things.. maybe you had trouble as a kid solving equations, maybe you just dislike mathematics.. its really really hard to tell.

Have you tried just looking at numbers on their own? Maybe even doing ridiculously basic addition and subtraction and see how it effects you.

It could really be a psychological problem - like churbur said, a therapist should be able to help you.

See a therapist. It's just a phobia and easily fixed.

It's psychosomatic. Meaning, it's all in your head. See a therapist

This is accurately expressed as "Numerical Morbus" The disease of numbers, it is fairly common in adolescents, but some times it can be carried into adult hood. I would be cautious if you where traveling, this could possibly have adverse effects if you where to lose control of a car, or even a bike while doing math in your head.
Good luck and I feel your pain, a friend of mine is in her late 30s and still suffers from this. She is very bad at balancing her check book.
