asexuals sometimes consider themselves to be lgbt due to their sexuality's contrast to the prescribed patriarchal norms of cisheteronormative society. Much of what passes for 'lgbt' can be casted in a similar light; notice that the "t" part of that acronym doesn't say anything about what that person's shagging preference is, it merely provides some illumination regarding that person's gender identity and presentation. in experiencing sexual attraction differently than others (if at all), and in potentially failing to do that which is generally commanded by patriarchal civilization, especially siring/birthing children, asexuals effectively entertain an odd (one might say, "queer") status in society, especially if their lack of desire for sex is the result not of celibacy or religious decree, but by default.
some asexuals do not desire to be part of said acronym or are otherwise indifferent towards it for a variety of reasons - some asexuals (and other queer identities) may view 'lgbt' as being too assimilationist, while others may simply not want to be part of anyone's alphabet soup, or otherwise view lgbt as being too incapable of capturing subtleties and nuances of identities. some asexuals wish to belong to lgbt because they believe that it can be a more effective venue for them to educate others about their experiences and unique struggles, such as:
- asexuals get hit with labels implying that they are corrupters of children, something many other queer people are familiar with
- renters are less likely to rent to asexuals if they know them to be such
- asexuals are frequently victims of "corrective rape" especially if afab or presenting as feminine
As much as I really don't want to engage with someone named "bitch_boi" about "prescribed patriarchal norms of cisheteronormative society", I once again have to ask for sources.
Where are asexuals being called "corrupters of children"?
How does a renter possibly know you're asexual?
Where are the statistics on "corrective rape" on asexuals? Furthermore, how does that apply to the OP, who is probably Fleak, who is male?
To your second post, patriarchy is older than that, and isn't synonymous with gender norms. The vast majority of all human gatherings to have ever existed were led by men. While this is related to gender norms, it's not the same concept, since gender norms are more structured and are the kind more akin to be passed down from generation to generation. Patriarchy goes deeper than just being some societal construct, so it started earlier, before societies of wealth were a thing.
For example, the control of female sexuality is more of a cultural gender norm thing, not a patriarchy thing.
"more of a cultural norm thing..." yes, patriarchal cultural norms. Someone obtuse enough to say that while being kind enough to throw "corrective rape" in scare quotes like it's some kind of thing that's open to dispute isn't the sort of person I'd kill braincells engaging with myself.
Anything and everything that isn't backed up by facts or statistics is open to dispute. I asked for a source because I didn't and don't immediately believe what you said, and I want you to back it up. I'm not trying to make this contentious, it's just that you or someone else posted this before, and it wasn't backed up by anything then, either.
Refusing to engage with anyone that questions you is the easiest way to convince as few people as possible.
One wouldn't call it "a patriarchy" as this implies the existence of a singular group or entity, rather than a set of attitudes and longstanding cultural norms around sex and gender that have been passed down from one generation to the next, albeit with occasional modifications in its expression. Patriarchy likely came in to existence at about the same time that property did - societies with class stratification and differences in the amount of wealth between one group and the next invariably produces family dynamics in which the father wants to ensure that the children to which he passes down his wealth are his true descendants, resulting thus in a culture that seeks to control female sexuality, as well as access to and ownership of, their bodies.
The above is, of course, a gross oversimplification of the literature pertaining to patriarchy which captures few, if any, of the subtleties and debates presently surrounding the finer details of the issue, which I do not presently seek to engage with myself.
Can I be religious without being straight

Yes you can be; also this is fleak right? Why do asexuals consider themselves to be lgbt when their whole shtick is not shagging anyone?

Okay, thanks for clearing that up. You're first sentence stuck with me. Do you believe the west is ruled by a patriarchy?
