Can an employer change your schedule for no reason?

I work for a Company in canada that is unionized. I recently broke my hand and am returning to work they gave me my schedule for ease back and the crew I was on (same as before). Now they told me they are taking me off my crew and putting me on another crew cause now that I returned there is to many people on the crew. I have 8 years seniority and I didn't cause any trouble or anything . Is this right? Also it changes my Babysitting schedule and I liked where I was before.

  • Have you spoken with your union rep at all?
If you have eight years of seniority, then shouldn't your schedule trump the person(s) they brought in (during your time off) who has less seniority than you?

Well, your unionized, so I can't answer that. I manage a place in Canada and I change the schedules whenever I need to. Just make sure it's within the worker's availability and he knows about it in advance. You'll have to check about it with your union rep. or another official source.

It entirely depends on your provincial/federal labour laws and the terms and conditions of your employment. Speak to your Union representative for advice.

Uhh... it looks like they GAVE you a reason.
You can check with your union representative but it kind of is the Manager's job to ensure that all employees are organized in a manner that gets the job done is as efficient of a manner as possible.
