Can a job require you to donate blood?

From what I know this is a breach of privacy. By law you can not force someone to give you private fluids without consent. So how can a job force you to donate blood? I looked this up and it says they have done this. How can you legally do this if they are violating your rights? My job never made me but can refusing really get you fired?

I'm pretty sure "donate" means to voluntarily give something up. So, no..

It doesn't sound legal. Anyway there are several prerequisites for donating blood say if you have hepatitis or anemia, youre not allowed to donate anyway.
Now a blood test for drugs that's another matter...you should tell them its against your religion cause Im pretty sure your religious freedom will trump their right to a blood test.

No, legally they aren't allowed to do this. I think that law stands in most countries. This sounds very sketchy especially since you risk getting fired if you refuse. I strongly suggest reporting them and quitting.

Sounds kinda sketchy to me. Honestly I don't even feel right about jobs drug testing, and here's why.

The way most drugs work in your body, they have a very short half life and absorption rate. So if you've done coke, meth, heroin... it's out of your system in 3 days tops. Easy squeazy to pass a drug test. The only thing those tests ever really get is weed.

Now some people who smoke weed probably aren't fit to do a job. But there are just as many people who use in moderation and are responsible, functioning human beings.

But people who do harder drugs and probably can't function as well and are more likely to be theifs or OD or not come into work get to slip right through the cracks in drug testing because of the very nature of the tests. I just don't think it's a good form of quality control, not to mention an invasion of privacy. Plenty of alcoholics in this country but you don't see us kicking them out of their jobs as long as they're not drunk at work. -.-

    • They do not get kicked out if they are not doing achohole on the job. In fact many jobs do not let you drink at all if you are on call 24/7. Also drugs are illegal and for a very good reason. Many people with drugs such as the mentions develop psychological issues. Some issues the same of that as a person with Schizophrenia. From what I know people with drugs or material beside weed still got caught even if they did not stop a month in advance. So yes you can cheat a urine sample. Though I do not see how else they would do this.

That's what I said. Point being why should you be kicked out for doing other drugs if you're not doing them at work?

And I'm not sure what you're talking about, the idea that drugs cause schizophrenia was tossed out a few years ago thanks to new research.

Amphetamines can cause psychosis, Meth is pretty well known for causing sensory hallucinations, that's why meth addicts are all scabby, you get this feeling like bugs crawling under your skin so they scratch themselves constantly.
Doing large amounts of psychedellics (such as psilocybin or LSD) can cause permanent hallucinations (I wish I could remember the name of the disorder, I know it's 4 words). but in that situation you're talking about overdose circumstances, people taking 40 hits or 100 hits or something ridiculous like that. I know someone who did probably 30 in a night by mistake (didnt know how small doses of liquid were) and he didn't suffer any long term damage thank god.

And you missed my point entirely on timeline. If youre a habitual weed smoker it can take up to a month. For harder drugs it's out of your system in 48 to 72 hours thanks to the shorter half life and the fact that their compounds do not store in your body fat. THC stays in your system for a very long time even after you stop feeling the effects. Not so for other drugs.

The reason other drugs are illegal is because they have no medical value. Heroin, one of the worst drugs on there, has a lower schedule than Cannabis (in the US at least) because of its perceived value as a painkiller. Of course by this logic alcohol makes no sense at all, as it is a hard drug, with no medicinal value, which is completely legal.

Our legal system is fucked, and I think you should educate yourself a bit more on this subject because that was extremely hard to follow.

        • I never said drugs create schizophrenia. I said symptoms as in hallucinations and paronia. So they will walk past a old in the street and randomly think "She is going to kill me. I should kill that bitch". So they will stab her to death. Tell me how that is a good thing?

Did you read anything I said at all? This kind of psychosis is rare and usually caused by AMPHETAMINES, which is one of the drugs that's almost impossible to test for.

Nah, you know what, I'm sorry but this is probably my last response. I can't argue against someone who's using no facts or reason.

            • That is a fact. You think it is not a fact that long term drug addicts have mental issues? That is a very obvious fact. Why they do not want drug addicts.

I think you are talking about two different things.

One is donating for folks who need blood. The other is a clinical blood draw for searching to see if you have diseases, do drugs, etc.

Can they force you to donate? I guess you could be shamed into it. Are they testing the blood for disease, drugs, etc? Who knows.

Sounds like a good court case.

To DONATE blood? Like, not to submit to a blood test, but to actually donate?

Hm. I don't think they're allowed to, no. Where do you live? How do they deal with people who medically can't give blood?
