Can’t stand all the fake niceness with corona virus

Ever since there has been this whole corona virus thing people have had an insufferable attitude towards it. I can’t stand how everyone is supporting this lockdown just for the sake of people who are old, sick and vulnerable anyway. The lives of those people are not worth the damage to the economy and the removal of personal freedom.

I also can’t stand the NHS worship. People who aren’t British won’t know about this but I find it pathetic how people are describing health workers as “risking their lives on the front line” and giving them such high praise for doing their normal job which they signed up for.

There is also the fact that people are doing these fake and shallow ‘acts of kindness’ such as delivering food to the vulnerable and writing them supportive cards. I know that people would not ordinarily be doing this and I just find it completely unbearable. I will seriously want to start murdering people if this goes on for much longer.

I can understand why you must find it very challenging when you see people expressing admiration and appreciation for those who aren't shallow, selfish, idiotic arseholes. It probably makes you wonder if those you consider friends - assuming there are any such people in your life - actually like you all that much.

But hang in there, dude. I'm sure normal life will eventually be restored, and then you'll be able to get back to your usual psychopathic ways and resume mugging old ladies, working in a bank, burgling houses, or whatever it is that you do to pass the time and make the lives of as many people as possible less enjoyable.

Staff in the NHS and other health workers across the world didn’t sign up to put their lives in danger due to an incurable pandemic you fucking moron. They also didn’t expect to be asked to work without the correct PPE, it’s not their fault that the government have been totally incompetent at organising production and distribution of sufficient quantities of appropriate PPE. In addition to that if you were grown up enough to watch programmes like ‘The News’ you would realise a lot of younger people have also died from the Coronavirus. Finally, you should get used to being confined, as the people with the lowest levels of intelligence, a group you clearly fall into, are statistically the most likely people to commit crimes and end up with custodial sentences.

"Staff in the NHS and other health workers across the world didn’t sign up to put their lives in danger..." That's exactly what they signed up for. That's part of what it means to take the Hippocratic oath.

      • XYXY

No it is not. Nowhere in the Hippocratic oath does it say doctors should practice using insufficient equipment that will place their own lives in danger. A large number do because they feel that morally it’s the right thing to do, as they are the people who have the required set of skills to save lives. It is however a matter for their own judgment. In modern times it is not even a requirement for newly qualifying physicians to take the oath, although most do as a matter of pride and principle. Nurses do not and never have been required to take the Hippocratic oath, again they put their own lives in danger out of a sense of moral duty and compassion for others.

"practice using insufficient equipment that will place their own lives in danger" Where is that an issue? Part of the Hippocratic oath is that the lives of your patients come before your own life. They quite literally signed up for this. "again they put their own lives in danger out of a sense of moral duty and compassion for others." So do doctors. Otherwise, they wouldn't have taken the oath.

That may been have poor phrasing on my part. What I meant is that if a patient has a disease, then the doctor has a duty of care to that patient. That means that they have an obligation to treat them, even if it means risking catching that disease themselves. This is quite literally what they signed up for.

Not necessarily but understanding it does. Making grown up decisions does and sadly knowing that there will always be a sector of society that don’t have the capacity to make mature decisions regardless of their age.

Watching TV and believing it to be true isn't really mature though. A child watches Barney and thinks he's a real dinosaur.

Understanding news just means you saw something on TV and believed it because it made sense to you. That's not maturity. being a grown up means thinking for yourself.

  • This is a pretty bad take. No, NHS workers did not sign up for this rare and uncommon scenario yet their work is essential so they risk their own health for others.

It doesn't matter if giving supplies to the vulnerable is done out of "fake niceness", what matters is that they're receiving essential supplies.

Yes, ordinarily people wouldn't be this helpful to those in their communities, the difference now is that we're not in an ordinary situation.

Yeah, that last part especially really had me scratching my head. OP is mad at people for helping people who need the help because they wouldn’t help them if they didn’t need help? That’s like saying it pisses me off when people give someone who’s choking the Heimlich maneuver since they wouldn’t give them the Heimlich maneuver if they weren’t choking.

One thing for sure - people are getting fed up with all this lockdown and social distancing shit. Even the hardcore sheeple are getting restless, feeling like they have been duped. The only people who do not mind lock down are those who never leave their damn home to begin with.

For the moon landing - I don't know nor care, I wasn't there either way.

I resonate with your sentiment about personal freedom. The majority of people have practically begged for their freedoms to be stripped; this event clearly shows us that the "free world" isn't free.

Also, yeah, the economy is, at the end of the day, people. I would rather risk the tiny chance of death which corona virus presents and keep my liberties and quality of life. No one on this site would even be alive when the last depression hit, and the massive decline in quality of life that it caused. I know this is unpopular, but it's cowardice at the end of the day. Everyone talks a big game about wanting to be free but when push comes to shove it's just bullshit.

That quote by Ben Franklin is trotted out often by libertarians and those of their ilk. What's ironic is that if you look at the historical context, it was meant in a way that's the opposite of what they believe him to have been saying.

In fact, it occurs in a letter defending and arguing for the authority of a legislature to govern in the interests of collective security.

The Pennsylvania General Assembly wanted to tax the Penn family - which owned the Pennsylvania Colony and governed it from the UK - in order to pay for border defences during the French and Indian War. The Penns kept instructing the Colony's Governor to veto the bill because they wanted to pay only a single lump sum rather than agree to pay a regular tax.

So they were indeed literally trying to "purchase a little temporary safety".

People want to feel like heroes for not going to the hair salon. This entire thing is a sham, they're doing a population control experiment. I heard in NY they just added 3700 people to the corona death toll that died weeks ago because they just realized they had it.

Government is too focused on stripping people's rights away to worry about actually getting rid of this "virus" which may or may not be what they're saying it is. Luckily many places in the US have been protesting the lockdowns because the government has no authority to do what its doing. Good to see some people wont just roll over and give up.

They could end up in love with each other, or both might leave the room convinced that the other was a Reptilian member of the Illuminati involved in a deep-state operation to undermine them, or there could be a murder.

You can never tell with such people.

This hypothetical scenario reminds me of a book titled 'The Three Christs of Ypsilanti' which describes what happened when a psychiatrist put three patients, each of whom was convinced that he was Jesus Christ, together in group therapy. Each of them spent a lot of time trying to convince the others that they were wrong, but when that didn't work, they all deployed pretzel-logic to defend their belief and dismiss the others.

Nah I mean the whole "Are maps accurate" thing questions the solar system model and people who take the bible too seriously turn it into a literal bible thing. There's a lot of young earth creationism muddying up anything serious about the flat earth argument. You can't be like "Accept that everything you learned in school was a lie" and then be like "read the bible."
