Brother sued me, lied & won

I gave up everything to take care of my Mom while she was dying. My brother did nothing to help then sued me after she died. His attorney ran up over $100,000 in legal fees. I defended my self then had to hire a lawyer at the end. My brother lied in court, but still won. I used to love my brother. Now I hate him with a deep dark passion. Anyone out there been sued by a loved one? How do you get over it and go on? We are left with small house and no livelihood. He is wealthy. I have to pay for the lawsuit. $38,000 plus. He got less then $10,000. Which also came out of my pocket. Is it normal for siblings to treat each other like this?

There has got to be more to the story, no one just decides to sue their brother.

I recently sued my brother, but this was after he stole 2 heirlooms my late Dad left my son and sold them. I tried for over a year to talk to him about it, but his solution was to 'disown' me instead of man up to it. It wasn't the first time he stole from me, but it will be the last.

Tell us the whole story, and then we can have a better idea if it's normal or not.

The LOVE OF money is the root of all evil - not money per se.
When we informed the lawyer my mom was dead and I have siblings the first thing he said was, "Has the fighting started yet over the estate?"

So, sorry but it's normal. Tou are not a child living in the same house as him any more so he really doesn't care about you. He maybe cares more about his wife / kids / money.

Your brother sounds pretty greasy, but we definately don't know the whole story. This happens all the time tho, that's why they say money is the root of all evil.

Sued you for WHAT? Was it a property dispute? What do you mean "he got less than $10,000"? Are you saying that that was what the court awarded him? For what? How small WAS this estate?

When you took care of your mother, did you do it thinking that you would deserve the entire estate? What did you expect him to do? Move IN WITH YOU, to level the playing field? Get REAL!
I was in a similar situation. The person taking care of my mother got FREE RENT for FOUR LONG YEARS. Neither I nor my other sibling moved into the house because we were ADULTS and weren't about to return to our childhood. You had free rent too. That can amount to $24,000 dollars for just one year in some cases.

You're brother's status of being wealthy is completely irrelevant. How did he become wealthy, by the way? By hard work or by some magician?

Hate him if you want but it doesn't hurt your brother. You HAVE no brother. He made his choice. He's in love with money. That's HIS problem. I think it's also yours. But the courts got involved and you lost that one.
