Brother's birthday is september 11 and he hasn't celebrated since 2000

I tell him to celebrate the day after, but he won't. He gets upset when I bring up the subject, and gets moody around this time of year. is it normal for someone with that birthday?

I have the opposite problem. I was born on VE Day, when millions of people were liberated. To be fair, it is their day because there are millions of them and it'd be a bit pathetic to focus on myself.

All of the victims of 9/11 would WANT your brother to celebrate his existence and the fact that he completed another trip around the Sun!

He has nothing to feel guilty about... unless he was part of a terrorist or conspiracy organisation - whichever you believe in.

Just because there is SOMETHING to feel bad about does not mean we should never feel good.

There are millions of people who are starving RIGHT now... and yet I'm going to roll up with a pizza and a movie and feel good. Not feeling good about the starving, but good that I am fortunate enough not to have to experience that at the moment.

Oh please. There was once an attempted terrorist attck on December 25. If it happened, does that mean we should all just not celebrate Christmas?

I gaurantee you that there are murders, car accidents, and countless other travesties happening every day of the year. You should tell your brother that there is nothing shameful about celebrating the day of his birth 'cause things like 9/11 happen all the time, only on a much smaller scale.

It makes sense that he didn't celebrate in 2001, but not celebrating later seems overboard.

My niece was born on the anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack. It really isn't a reason to not celebrate her birthday. It's just another date on the calendar. Most of them will have something negative associated with it.
