Brother called the police becasue of a weed smell

Late night 12:20am my brother called the police on me because the downstairs somehow smelled like weed. I use a air purifier and a vaporizer to calm the smell down but my weed glass jar recently broke. I believe this was a cause for the issue but here is what happened. My brother owns the house but if it wasn't for me an other brother's efforts, the house would never have been completed. We are all related by blood keep in mind. The cops came in and confiscated most of my stash and took my smoking devices (Arizer Solo) and my grinder. My brother then proceeded to get my parents involved by calling them and explain exactly what he did to us. I don't agree that calling the police was his best option, and a little communication between the two of us before the cops would have been called would have been appreciated. There hasn't been an issue in over 2 years and out of the blue no warning a knock at my bedroom door. I didn't get arrested / no charges.

I live in NYS

Is it normal for brothers to call the police on each other for a weed smell / in general for petty things?

    Seems like a bitch move to call the cops without talking about it. Cops should be called as a last resort. Ive had plenty of room mate problems before and never got the cops involved other than to check up on stolen pawned items because I couldnt do that myself. People need to solve their own problems instead of wasting the polices time and being a little bitch snitch. I dont know why you dont move out.

    Considering he could lose his house because you have weed in it, I'd think you'd be a bit more considerate and smoke outside, away from the house.
    Perhaps he was protecting himself by establishing the fact that should the cops bust you and follow it back to his house, that it is you, not he, who is the smoker in the house.

      you cannot lose your house because there are miniscule amounts of weed in it. Get your facts straight before making comments. It also helps my back as I suffer from 3 ruptured discs. As soon as I can apply for the medical I am getting it. What then? I refuse to take ibuprofen or opiates.

        I think it is you who needs to get your facts straight. The cops have plenty of seizure laws in place they can use whenever they wish.
        If you were smoking in my house, you'd be on the street so fast you wouldn't know what happened. I think it's just plain disrespectful to do that to anyone, let alone family.
        You'd rather smoke an illegal substance than take a legal OTC drug, in someone else's home? Isn't that a little selfish?

          You are a tad ill informed. The long term usage of those pills can cause a lot of issues with the liver and stomach ulcers. I need more than the standard OTC drugs. Weed has many benefits associated with inflammation. Which is wreacking havoc. Also its not smoking. Im not lighting up dubies and blunts here, or a bowl or anything combustible. You sound just like my jerk off brother.

            Also this ass hole was having HGH sent to his house for a friend which is a scheduled III substance and would inject it into his friends ass. Hows that for hypocritical? The maximum penalty for trafficking is five years in prison and a fine of $250,000 if this is the individual’s first felony drug offense. Lets that sink in for a minute and let me know what you still think. Your whole he wanted to protect his house argument just went flying out the window.

    No matter what you feel about cannabis, it is still an illegal drug and it doesn't look like you asked him permission.

    Blood is not always thicker than water and he doesn't owe you loyalty if you're going to breach his trust like that.

    If someone smoked weed in my house without asking, they'd never be allowed back. It's the principle.

      We worked it out through a heart to heart talk. His only issue was me doing it in my room. I understand its his home and his rules and I'm glad he doesn't care that I smoke just the smell bothers him. I need to be respectful of his wishes. It not hard to go outside, even though its in the teens I'm still cool with that. I'm just glad I dont have to hide it anymore from him but he already knew like 4 years ago that i smoke pot so its not news to him. He invited me to live with him because he needed help to pay the taxes. I live in a village and we get hit with Village and Town Taxes. He honestly couldn't afford to live at that home without the two of us footing the tax bill (in the form of rent). I'm not using this as a reason to not follow rules just merely stating we need each other to live comfortably and we need to get along.

        That's cool then. He still shouldn't have called the cops in the first place though. A good, loving brother wouldn't do something like tha imo, for something as relatively harmless as weed. The heart to heart talk should have been what happened in the first place.
