Break a leg!

Why is it that when performers are backstage and their turn is coming up, the friend of the performer/trainer or whatever says "Break a leg!" That means good luck.

How in the hell is breaking gotdamn leg good luck? What crazy motherfuckas came up with that mess? I mean seriously. What if the person really does break a leg?

Is it normal this makes me a little annoyed?

  • When someone is about to go ass to mouth it is always good to say "break a leg" right beforehand.

      How about "bust a nut."

      No...that's not what I meant.

    I know! It's weird.
It pisses me off that it seems you can't say "good luck" because it is considered to bring you bad luck instead. I know they have loads of idioms to mean good luck instead, not only in english, but in all the languages. It is very weird that it happens eveywhere....

  • This post remembers me of that incident with that wrestler
"Sycho Syd". He broke his leg during a match by jumping from the top rope, falling with his entire weight on his leg, causing it to break. Now, the irony of this is that, before the match, one of his managers, or trainers, actually told him to "break a leg", which i think is weird, bizzare and funny at the same time. This is actually true. Look it up on Google. There's also footage on youtube from the match and the moment he jumped and his leg snapped. Hard to watch...
