Braces on for too long

I was originally meant to have my braces off within 18 months. Now it looks like i will have them on for more than two years. Has this happened to anyone else?

  • I got braces and im freaking happy that they will be removed in June :D. Dont expect your orthodontist to say when your teeth are fixed. They want to get your teeth perfect and make alot of money out of it. Decide for yourself whats good and tell him/her. Ive had some problems with my jaw and i still do, some teeth were kinda messed up but nothing really bad.
Decide for yourself what you think is good its your mouth :D those guys just want everyone to have the same straight smile and make money out of it. I know i said it 2 times

my teeth moved slower than expected they werent too screwy its just they had spaces in the back that needed to be filled so iwas getting teeth pulled and filling the gaps and just shifting everything around i had them on for 4 years all throughout highschool so relieved to have them off and when they gave me the retainer i never wore it cause i said FUCK putting up with braces or anytihng for any longer. needless to say my teeth are close to the way they were previous to my braces.

Dad? LOL! My sister had them for 4 years. I just got mine about 3 weeks ago, they absolutely kill on the first and second day, so just try and eat porrigde or something. After about a week you can eat pretty normally. I had these bits of cement placed on my back teeth or make my jaw used to a new position. So I cant munch well but otherwise they'll be a pain at first, have some paracetemol ready

I had braces for over two years, except my teeth were already pretty straight, the reason I had braces was to fix my jaw. Except now my jaw is going out, so I'm kind of pissed.

I'm going into my 8th year of braces and I cannot even remember life without them! My teeth were not that bad I had an underbite which has taken a very long time and I still have no idea of when mine will be off! However my teeth are so weak so I'll have amazing teeth but so weak! Ugh

I have had braces for 6 years now! I am supposed to get them off in a month but you never know with my dentist. Its been extremely hard for me especially because I'm a young adult. But 2 years is nothing compared to some people. You way too lucky!

I had braces for 4 years, orthodontics for a total of 6 years and surgery, so I know at times its hard and depressing, like when trying to bite apples! But you've got to remember the bigger picture that it's to improve your teeth and the longer they are on will enable your dentist to get your teeth to near perfection, so hang in there and think what is two years compared to the rest of your life?

just wear your retainer. i didn't wear mine because it gave me headaches and then i had to get braces again. now i have a permanent retainer glued to the back of my teeth.... i guess i'm supposed to have it for the rest of my life?!

  • Ya, I had them for 3 1/2 years because of a bike wreck that I had that knocked my teeth around...don't worry, it'll get over with soon...hang in there!

I had braces for 7 so far. Still have them on. If you get rubber bands wear them 24/7

    Same thing here.

I was supposed to only have mine on for a year and I've had them on for about two now.

Yeah i hear you on this one. I had braces on for what seemed like an eternity and the date to get them taken off always was getting pushed back. My teeth looked fine and all but my bite was a tiny bit messed up. I eventually just told the dr to take em off. It was the best decision ive ever made

    Don't worry, Braces aren't forever!
Also, it takes awhile for your teeth to get straight.
and either way, you might not have them on for two years.

a few months? try a few years. my friends dad is an orthodontist and he said 3 years night and day then ten years just at night. i know it seems like a long time but get the clear kind and you wont notice it. its not that bad.

I think you were meant to wear a "retainer" for a few months to make sure they stay in place.

That means your orthodontist screwed up.

It depends on what type of braces you need, and where they are placed on the teeth.
If you do get pain, you'll more than likely get used to it after about a fortnight or so, and soon enough, they'll become second nature to you, especially if you have them on for as long as i have.

I had braces of for more than three years ...
It takes more time to shift the teeth around when they are crowded.

They weren't crewkard at all really. The main problem was that 2 teeth didn't have enough room to come down

My husband is an orthodontist. Did you wear your rubber bands correctly and attend all appts. Sometimes teeth move more slowly than planned.
