Is it normal that my first assumption when a boyfriend surprises me with lube is that he's making a statement about my vaginal wetness? My vagina is plenty wet why would he get lube?

he doesn't want anal. This is strictly a question about lube intended for the vagina.
If it isn't for anal, any you get plenty wet enough, then he doesn't understand the point of lube. Eventually he will learn that too much lube is a bad thing and you do want some friction.

Oh, well then yes. It is normal to be self-conscious about sex and/or anything about our bodies. Don't think about it too much. He probably thinks he is being kinky and it isn't a reflection on you at all.
I'm sure he does just want it for fun though. What is fun about vaginal lube is if you get the warming kind... X3
Maybe he's just an idiot? lol Some guys just don't get it xD He probably saw lube as one of those usual sexual things that people have, so he went and bought it. Tah-dah! Lube! If it's bugging you, ask him :P
