Blonde stereotype?

There seems to be this stereotype that blondes are all dumb whores. I think it's really unfair that people say this about a hair color..People just seem to prefer hair colors other than blondes nowadays.

I have natural blonde hair and people immediately assume I'm some kind of collosal mega bitch, I've had so many conversations like this;
" Wow, you're actually really nice! I though you were a bitch before I met you! I guess it's the hair." WHY?
What do you guys think when you see a blonde, looking good, walking down the street?

Whore/slut/harlet etc 20
Oh, she must be a respectable lady. 11
Don't really care about hair color 56

The blonde stereotype is based on fact. The problem with this is that natural blondes are exactly the same as natural brunettes or natural red heads, the issue comes with fake blondes. The fact of the matter as I see it is that the extremely materialistic spoiled little girls that give blondes this bad name, are seldom natural blondes. They are the girl that has bleached the shit out of their hair to make them look more like barbie, and typically come with fake boobs and collagen lips as well!

I maintain that this sub type of blonde lives up to the reputation, but I also recognize that not every blonde (especially natural blondes) are like this at all!

I've dyed my hair every colour, and now I bleach my hair. Fortunately, no one could accuse me of being stupid, so when I get guys like you hitting on me expecting me to be some dozy slag, I really relish watching their faces change once I open my mouth.

As far as I'm concerned, it's unfair to lump everybody into the same category. I like my hair colour at the moment, and I'm not going to change it until I get bored. I appreciate that the kind of blonde you're talking about exists, but if you're prejudging someone based on something as facile as hair colour, you're the airhead.

          very good reasoning too.

But i guess basically thats similar to what i meant :)
because with those false blond hair and fake boobs often comes that typical "barbie-dresscode", too.

I guess around here people are more focused on THAT signal and less on the hair color-

Seems to be the type of girl that every sorority is filled to the brim with. Thankfully I am done and over the college days so I don't have to worry about running into that anymore! lolz

no it isn't because blonde isn't a race. They stereotype blondes and racism is a form of stereotyping but stereotyping isn't racism.

If she is blonde with brown roots showing and in a trailer park or ghetto holding a few bastard kids, more than likely she is dumb yes.

  • It's not really a stereo type, just a joke. I don't know anybody that would call someone dumb for being blonde if it wasn't for a joke.

Dude!! I get this all the time too and I'm so sick of it!! I hate the fact that everyone judges us and assumes we're bitches just because we have blond hair when they are the judgmental bitches!! Just shows you how shallow people can be. Well I'm blond and I'm staying blond, and if people judge me on the color of my hair, I don't want to know them anyways!!

I like to think that Marilyn Monroe started that, as she was the blonde, sex icon of the 1950's that all the young ladies wanted to be, and if you watch any of her movies, she never is potrayed as being too bright, but that's just what I think. The stereotype may have started from something else.

oh i got told that blondes where dumb and easy, brunettes are sluts and red heads are freaks... now i don't like the person that told me this but it's also down to how the so called blondes act. think about it if like 60% of blondes just wear short skirts and shorts tight tops and flirted alot and then 40% of blondes wear respectful clothes and have intellectual convos with you. the higher percentage is what most people tend to see.. i'm blonde and get whisled at beeped at by people in cars and people ask for my number. i'm now always wearing jeans and where my bf's jacted so not a lot of skin is hsowing but it still happens because of how people chose to see the hair colour...

Actually, i think it's less the hair color and more WHAT you wear. If you have a beautiful body and "show it off", then the blondness is just an extra.

I've been coloring my hair to plenty of colors, and the reactions i got differed less by wether i had e.g. red, blond, or blue hair, but more by what i was wearing. *shrug*

Also a factor may be the voice. Certain voices lend themselves to assumptions about the speaker...maybe you're unlucky in that department?

I have natural blonde hair, eyebrows and eyelashes and I wear men's sweats most days. I speak proper English and have straight As, yet people still assume I'm an idiot and talk to me slowly or explain themselves very clearly because they think I don't understand. This has only happened in the US, though. Maybe it's just an american thing.

I don't think the dumb blonde stereotype is actually taken seriously. It's about as prevalent as the hot-tempered redhead stereotype is.

If you're coming across as a bitch before people get to know you, it's probably not the hair.

    • I really dont see the point of you being on this site at all if all youre going to do is nitpick all the typos and not give an opinion. I clearly know the spelling of colossal, I was on an iPad and made a spelling error. And if you think misspelling one word means somebody's stupid then you are the stupid one.

I don't think it's the hair, though I do admittedly make blonde jokes to my blonde friends (though it's not to be taken seriously).

It's stupid like all stereotypes are. Blondes aren't the only ones that have to deal with this kind of shit Redheads also have to deal with it, but I think they get it much worse. The media doesn't help to end this, but instead only continues to reinforce it countless of times. You know those college movies with the dumb blonde or the films that almost always portray the bully/troublemaker as being a redhead? I'm sick of it and it needs to end!

It's not racism or anything, it's just crappy completely baseless comments that have been the subject of about half of all jokes nowadays. Load of bullshit.

People who believe these kinds of things for real are the dumb ones. I'll happily play along to the blonde stereotype, for a joke.

I haven't been involved with many blondes. Just the three. All three of them were very intelligent. Not sure where this stereotype is coming from.

I think it originally spawned from Marylin Monroe.

You could be on to something there. She did play the dizzy role in a lot of films. Was she actually a real blonde, though? I don't know for sure, but she kind of didn't look like one to me.

Wow, thank you. She should have stayed how she was. I was never attracted to the blonde version of her, but the natural one is very pretty.

No, she was not a natural blonde. I can not remember where I got the information but she is the one that started the stereotype.

There are other reasons for it as well, such as blondeness being attributed to childishness as caucasians are often born blonde and stay blonde up until they are older children (certainly before their teen years) as well. I was not so lucky, I was born with black hair =/
