I am an Aftican American male and all of my friends give me a hard time for wearing flip flops in the summer. They say its bad enough that I'm a man, but that its especially weird for a black man?? Is it normal???
Wtf go to some countries like Brazil or India, they wear them whatever race they are.
I wear mine around the house all the time and sometimes in public during summer.
Just make sure your feet aren't nasty. I mean, there's no such thing as "nice feet", but if they're downright offensive, people would be justified in reacting badly.

if they made flip flops are extra wide i would buy them
I'd be telling people to lay off and get life no one
should be bullied over what they wear.

I think it's absolutely normal. if you like flipflops and they feel comfortable for you, go for it! I bet you rock them! :)
I really don't see what your friend's problems are. They shouldn't be bothering you over what you do since it shouldn't affect them in any way. Wear whatever you want and forget about what other people think.
