      I'm British but I'm with you all the way on that. French fries and chips are two different things. You can't begin to imagine my displeasure at asking for fish and chips and being sold fish fingers and French fries. Then again, if I asked in America, I'd probably get fish and crisps. And I don't even want to think what would happen if I asked in a casino.

      No offence to George Best or Diego Maradona, but I really believe Zidane is the best player to ever kick a ball. I often find myself watching tributes on Youtube. Astonishing stuff!

    Nice to see both current and ex Liverpool players in the list. You get a million brownie points from me for that.

    Being completely objective about it, though, I think Lionel Messi is the best. A family friend, who is just breaking into the first team at a Premiership club says that most of his attack-minded team mates look to Messi as the player they want to emulate.

      I'd have to admit that Eto'o is the best player not on this list. (Although I'm partial to Kaká!)

      I don't see how a player with the title of "World's Greatest Playfinisher" could have possibly been omitted!! And if that's not enough, Eto'o (IMO) is clearly better than everyone on that list except for Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo!

    For all time greats it has to be Edison Arantes do Nascimento or as he is most widely known, Pelé. As for current players Messi is probably the best at the moment, Ronaldinho's technical skill and freestyle football can't really be beaten by any other professional footballers and very few freestyle footballers to date :)

      If this were all time greats, then Pelé would win the vote in a runaway. Maradona would finish a clear second, and I could imagine some votes going to Bobby Charlton, Franz Beckenbauer, and Johan Cruyff.

      It's clearly much more fun to make the poll of today's best, since there's always plenty of room for fighting about people who didn't make the poll, along with people who did make the poll that are deemed undeserving.

    You put in Nani who's far below all but one of the people mentioned (he's great, but nowhere near Messi's calibre), and you mention that has-been Ronaldinho?!

    I try to be nice to everyone I meet here, but the person who put up this poll should have their ass kicked for leaving out Kaká... I know these past few seasons have been bad, but he's still one of the world's elites!
