Definitely a hard pick. I would have said 2001 but I've sorta grown distant from the film. And then I would've said FMJ but the latter half of the movie still isn't quite right. So I went with the one that was solidly amazing.

    • 2001: A Space Odyssey could be used to put people into comas, it's so boring that you can actually do a better re-write in your head before it ends.

"Moon" shits all over it in EVERY way.

I disagree. I mean it's all subjective. I found moon really lame first time I watched it. I was really disappointed by the climax, but I guess I was for 2001 as well.

And I don't know how you found it boring, it's all in the anticipation and waiting. It leaves you in long uncomfortable near silences that I think really nailed what it MIGHT feel like in space, I couldn't imagine it too much differently.

I was on edge, where I found Moon a little bit predictable.

        • Subjective experience, true.

Moon is much more emotional, something that really elevates it above 2001 for me. It's one of the saddest films I've ever seen. It had more "depth" to it's overall meaning.

Hmm, you might be right. I really like when a movie speaks some human truth and I think for the most part yea, moon probably does more in that department but not enough for me. Wish I could like it like you and others do.

I agree with you about FMJ, what happened there?

I honestly wished I liked The Shining more just like Clockwork Orange but I can never get my head around why people think they're both so good. Could you enlighten me?

Clockwork was about how in the future they would use mind control to reduce crime, it also had some hilarious scenes even though they weren't supposed to funny.

The Shining is intensely scary and has a very cool ending.

Nobody's gonna pick "Eyes Wide Shut". That movie was kind of ridiculous and Tom Cruise is such an astronomical dildo it's baffling.

The Shining was great and I agree that FMJ fell apart after the boot camp sequence was over.

I enjoy the '70s vision of the future that A Clockwork Orange prophesized. Some was way off but some rang true. I got the DVD a few years ago and was disappointed to play the william tell sex scene in slow-mo & zoomed. Sometimes it's not good to learn the truth behind certain things.

I haven't seen any others, but

2001 a space odyseey. I wasn't that keen on the shining, well i liked it just not anywhere near as much as everyone else seems to i think it's because it strayed a bit too far from the book for me
