Isn't it kind of strange that beards and pubes are not considered attractive by most?

I find it odd because it's natural so why aren't humans hardwired to like beards and pubes? Instead it seems the opposite is true. People seem to be turned off by such things.

I understand that the looks we're exposed to in our culture can shape attraction but how can that be stronger than nature? Sex is the most important instinct we have yet attraction is so malleable? It doesn't make sense.

    Social conditioning goes a long way in overriding natural instincts. I'm not necessarily a fan of huge beards on men but that's all personal preference, and definitely not a dealbreaker unless they don't maintain it. (I think the reason I'm weirded out by big beards is seeing people eating with food all up in their facial hair)

    As far as pubes go I've noticed it seems that younger people hate them while older people prefer them. It's been such a new trend, as early back as the 80s full bush was still in vogue for women. All those arguments about it being more hygenic are just ridiculous, if you believe that then I guess men must be pretty dirty since they don't shave their legs or pits.

    But look at our culture today. There are 10, 12 year old kids out there already dieting (who really don't need to) and wearing clothes and makeup that would look innappropriate on a college aged woman let alone a child. The media plays a huge role in the lives of the average citizen, both actively and subliminally, because while many people religiously follow the new trends, there are just as many being effected by that mindset simply because it's so pervasive.

    Seems like as general blanket statement, people don't have very much integrity and they're more willing to obey the status quo than think for themselves.

      good post yes I agree that all those young people are very much influenced by the media, the trend now seems, at least for younger men is not to shave your face, but shave your pubes, a bit silly I know. They see all those ads for shaving pubes and all those young men, especially sportsmen growing stubble and only shaving once a week or month, not once a day.

      that's why many men, especially younger ones don;t shave their face once a day, perhaps once a week or less,BUT they do shave their pubes, not all of them, but quite a few.

    Dont really care unless you look like a homeless person, or a hill billy, thats just weird. But for me. keep it trimmed. On of my friends came whining to me one day abou how she chocked and gagged on her bfs pubes so...yea keep it trimmed boys...(We know what she was doing...nasty...)

    I would say I agree, but if they were more popular, I would have more competion then I could reasonably kill in one murderous rampage.

    Um...a short beard that is just barely more than a few days of growth and well groomed. Long rabbi/ZZ Top style beards are yucky and unruly mountain man ones are disgusting! Now Gerard Butler and Chris Hemsworth from the Thor movie do the beard beautifully!!!

    I love beards! I'm not too crazy about long unruly bush pubes for oral purposes but I don't mine a trimmed one!

    It was thought that sweating was a way to attract mates. However we have evolved past it. Yes they are natural. I have no idea about that either. Maybe the fact they get dirty so easily?

    what shade said. kids naturally eat their own boogers today , and way way back in the day, adults used to eat each others boogers which greatly helps boost your immune system, but over time that was phased out and looked down upon because of 'social conditioning', and we have lost that beneficial act.

    I think a lot of people grow big beards because it hides there otherwise ugly mug and makes them look more attractive.

    This is kind of related. According to my bio teacher from a few years back, overall the human population is becoming gradually less hairy. I'm not talking about shaving but biologically.

    So...if you consider that, MAYBE it does make some sense that attraction is going that way.

    Beards are alright, I prefer a man with a bit of scruff, not a full beard, makes him look a bit hillbilly-ish if it's on the wrong person. But I most definitely adore pubic hair on a man, and it's really weird that some men opt to shave it off. I don't know, just I'd rather have a man with pubic hair and scruff than a hairless boy.

      There are a lot of men now, including myself who have a bit of scruff, its becoming much more common to see this, just recently I have seen many guys who were clean shaven now growing a little beard or scruff. As far a pubic hair is concerned I have never trimmed 1cm of hair off from down there, I am over 60, its a jungle, but I think its very manly. I fully agree with your last sentence, boys when they reach puberty should just leave their pubic hair to grow out as long and thick as I have, even better they should also leave their facial hair alone as well and not shave until they reach 20 to trim it down a bit, that is what is now happening to many young men now.

    I don't think much about other people's pubes. It's not like I have to see them.

    And I love beards! I think I live in an area where people commonly have beards so it isn't a big deal at all.

      Its quite commonplace now to see men of all ages, but I think especially younger guys not shaving in a regular bases, perhaps razor blades are too expensive for them. There are not too many men who let their beards go wild, sort of like a Rasputin type beard, however I have seen a few.

    I don't give a shit what people do with their pubes, I see more faces than crotch regions anyway, but I have a hot buttered burnin love for the beard. I may or may not be getting a little excited right now just thinking about it. Don't judge me.
