Be honest

How many of you honest and truly love what you do to make a living? Im sittin here lying to myself that this is enjoyable, and I am bored out of my mind. After 6 months of this job, I am completely loosing it. I keep looking for other jobs that are more envolving but every interview and followup ends with “we love you and WOULD hire you, but we decided to eliminate the position instead. Hope you understand” BS. I wish there was more I could do to get outta here, but I feel stuck.

I love my job generally 90% of the time. I've been a nanny for 16 years, come June.

My current family, though? I fucking love this little baby so much it hurts. I don't know how he's so stinkin perfect but he is. Even when he's crying. 100% love my job right now.

I don't mean to rub it in. It sucks that you're so unhappy in your job. What do you do?

    • I stream college sports to the web. It’s a simple part time job that often has me sitting doing nothing. At first youre thinking “alright. I can dig getting paid to do nothing” then it’s “ugh, when do I get to do something?”

I shouldnt be complaining as I thought I could handle a job monitoring sports, when I have little interest in sports.

Technically this job is a stepping stone to get me to a career I want, but I cant take being alone for 10 hrs doing nothing.

Big Ten Network? Well, I don't know much about that sports network, but if you feel that there is a chance for advancement, or to move forward there then I certainly support you're trying to hang in there.

I know it can be frustrating, but if you truly feel that this job could be a stepping stone to something better then perhaps you should try to hang in there despite the frustration. There jobs out there that are much more meaningless and unrewarding than streaming sports for a cable sports network. I'm not proud of it, but I used to work at Target stocking the shelves in the middle of the night when I lived in Las Vegas, Nevada. Before I moved to Las Vegas, Nevada I worked as a part-time Classic Rock disc jockey at a local radio station in Jackson, Mississippi on weekends. Believe me when I say that I loved working in radio broadcasting even if it was only part-time, and working as an overnight stocker in Target in the desert was truly soul crushing especially after having to move across the country, because my marriage had broken up due to my spouse's infidelity. It was a special sort of Hell.

If I were in your shoes right now, and truly felt that it could lead to better things I would try to hang in there at that job, continue to look for other media related opportunities, pray, meditate and try to find creative outlets in my personal life. I would highly encourage you to perhaps try something like starting your own YouTube channel, or a podcast somewhere.

You could also look for other hobbies, try to take some additional college classes, or even some adult enrichment classes at a local community college for the purpose of self enlightenment. You could also even look for a second part time job for the purpose of saving money.

Whatever you do don't let the stress, and depression about where you are suck you in, because as awful as things might seem they could always be worse. I'm not trying to invalidate your feelings in any way by saying that, but it's just something I know from life experiences. I think it's essential that you do self care in that you find things to do that encourage and nurture your creativity, also try to exercise, and foster positive hobbies, as well as finding things to so in your off time that will help you relax, and destress while you continue to hang in there, look for opportunities elsewhere, and foster your creativity.

I wish you all the best!

            • I have been told that they will start training me on a new position soon but it will be almost the same thing, just with more responsibilities. We’ll see how it goes.

Ugh yeah. I get you. If it's not interesting to you, the day fucking drags. Ten hours is a long day, too.

Can you do your own shit in downtime at work or would that get you in trouble? Like...when bub's napping for me (like now...) I have two hrs to fill and Ive done all the house stuff I've been asked to so I'm online...

        • I bought a switch and bring it to work daily. I can only take staring at a screen for so long before I fry my eyes out and get a migrane. But yes I could fill my time with essentially anything as long as I dont miss my cues.

Yeah. I can understand that. What about reading or another hobby? All those screens for 10hrs is a disaster waiting to happen?

On most days I really do like my job. I've been working at Target since 2006, and while I did have a short period of time where I did resent the place, I can say I really like it there.

Right now I'm in Market. I audit, push heavy uboats full of stuff, put the stuff on the shelves, and I keep my department clean. I have a lot of energy, so doing a job where I get to move around all day is fun.

Some days I hate my job, other days it's OK and occasionally I have days or parts of days when I love it.

It keeps a roof over my head, that's it.

If you hate your job, keep looking for another one, but keep in mind that very few people actually love their jobs: most of us work because we need to and if we love our work that's a bonus.

I find it hard to believe that's the identical response you've had from every single job you've applied for: how many applications have you actually submitted?

    • I understand that I am not going to be a person that is written in history books, but I also dont want to be just another cog in the wheel doing the daily grind.

Most apps I have applied to have outright turned me down, the ones where I got to an in person interview (only 4 companies) have said the aforementioned.
I have made it my mission to do an application a day in hopes to find something better.

Maybe you can try to find a few podcasts you like and let them play so you have something akin to radio playing that doesn’t require more eyes on screen time

Well its my longest one ive watch is the co-optional podcast. Now Genna runs it because unfortunately TB passed away from his cancer.

But its supposed to be about gaming, but it gets derailed alot which is fine.

You can get the audio on most podcast apps or see it with video on Twitch and YouTube

If you’re into hearing story’s. Even if most if it is about an old hollywood that was before our time.

Gilbert Godfried has a good one, that’s pretty funny

Option 5: I love not working but I hate not working either and I probably wont ever find a job I will love doing as the job I really wanna do I have to be in job/industry already to get my qualification (TAFE course cert whatever in veterinar or something with the zoo's (in Australia)) to do what I actually want (that's the best way I could explain it lol) which is to work with animals as love them

I don't hate what I do now. I love the fact that it affords me the opportunities to do things that I do love, and give back to nonprofits I care about.

You don't say if you are Male or female. I'm not being sexist but that can have a big bearing on jobs recommended. Myself, I animals and the last job I had when I was able to work, I worked as a Mover. Yes, go in pack yp.people's stuff, load it on trucks or offload from said trucks. There is a background check, no felonies, no thefts. If you are male and want to be paid to workout. I LOVED the job. Some days got as hell, sweating my ass off. But, DAMN I was much better shape than I am now. I can't get to work if I can't drive, and I can't drive if I can't see well enough to drive. It's hard work, but very satisfying to me anyway. Most places, when you have experience will pay $12-16 p/he and more if you have Good communication skills, a driver's license, and can get stuff loaded into a truck for a cross country haul and things don't get broke, etc.

Allied, United, Bekins, Mayflower, and many independent movers. Try it, always a different day, at times great tips, and most furniture in my apt was given to me by people moving that didn't want or couldn't take with them. Mountain bikes, dishes, bbq's. Most anything you can think of.

I don't get paid enough, but I have a lot of time and freedom. Five weeks vacation a year, one day a week telecommuting, no hard deadlines on most of my projects. Job security.. no one with my skill set would want to work for 2/3s of what they'd get somewhere else.

  • I enjoy it most days but every job has it’s pros and cons. I do want more and to learn more and grow with something entirely new. I think it would be a nice change for something part time. Sometimes I think my day is greatly determined on my attitude going into work. Drowning myself in redbull and jamming out to seether my drive in tends to help some.

I don’t care if I love my job or not so long as I don’t hate it. All I care about is getting paid. I’ll do any job as long as I’m getting paid. The job itself doesn’t make me hate it. It’s the people I have to work with that causes the problem.

The current job market is pretty ugly.
I've seen a lot of people vote in areas that don't represent their best interests.
