Bars and liquor stores should not have to close!!

I'm sick of all these stupid laws saying what times of day we can purchase alcohol or be allowed to sit in a bar!!

Bars should be allowed to stay open 24/7 if they choose to.

And why exactly can't we buy beer or liquor before or past a certain hour? Some places restrict sales completely on Sundays! Some do on Election Day as well.

No sales on Election day is incredibly stupid, since it's a proven fact that drunken people become even more interested in politics.

Why do we have dry counties? That's ridiculous!!

If I want to go to a bar at 5am then I should be allowed to. Where I live they keep making the rules stricter and stricter for bars and clubs so people just smoke meth. Unintended consequences for the win.

I agree. I think it's silly, but at least they haven't brought back Prohibition.

The only way to change the law is to get the issue on the ballot and allow the people to decide. If you will check, I think you'll find these issues were voted on by the people in the past in your area and that's why they're on the books. The reason liquor stores, etc. are closed on election day in some locations is to prevent drunks from getting loaded, going to polling locations and causing problems.

I think that no shops should close at any time it's bloody irritating when you need something today but have to wait till tomorrow or you are working throughout the day when when the shop is open but then when you are done the shop is closed.

I always thought the ban of sales on election day was to encourage voter turnout. You don't want your constituents drinkin when they could be voting. It's an outdated law I didn't realize still existed. Drinking games and politics are a sport around here.

I agree with you fully, even though I don't actually drink myself but I think the Election Day point is kind of off. Drunk people may be more interested in politics, but they aren't exactly thinking with their full capacity either.

Finally someone has come up with a
Real issue on here that has some relevance, with all the freaks going on about banging their sister, Yeh!!! Why can't we buy beer on election day?

because of the MANY MANY super drunk people that would stumble into a store, probably knock all kinds of shit over, be noisy/belligerent and cause trouble, wanting to buy more alcohol when they clearly don't need it. ( use http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kLqahiyuSs as a reference)
it's really not that big of a deal to plan ahead. any time i party and the beer and liquor is running low at 1:30, we will make a beer run before they stop selling at 2 am.

    New Orleans rocks!!!

My favorite bar was Debbie's (RIP). Happy hour was from 4 to 6. AM and PM.

Many of these places have no locks on the door since they are open 24/7/365.

I agree to a certain degree. I mean 8-9 is just way too early, I mean it should be at least midnight. I don't know if that changes anything, but I've had way too many times, being carless, that I couldn't make it to the beerstore/lcbo because I couldn't get a ride, I'd have to bus and carry it.

I used to work an over night shift and would get to my house around 6:30a and wish that I could have a few drinks to help me to sleep.

These laws vary by state and county, so do your research and move somewhere else.

If you're really passionate about it, contact your local and state representatives.

I'm sure it's a major bummer for someone like your alcoholic father.

Yeah like we need drunken idiots around on the streets even more! Buy your crap on Saturdays and you won't have to care if they don't sell it on Sundays, sounds kinda simple to me

    • The laws do nothing as far as keeping people off the streets. The bars near me used to close at 4 AM. Then the law changed forcing them to close at 2 AM in an effort to somehow solve the "problem" of lots of drunk people on the streets all at once (?). All it did was make the problem worse! Now there's a whole bunch of drunk people out there at 2 AM, which is way too early for most, and they go to house parties in what WERE quiet neighborhoods and continue drinking there. So there's an initial early wave of drunks at 2, then a second wave even later after the after parties. It was much better for everyone with the bars closing at 4, people did tend to trickle out and there wasn't THAT much of a crowd problem (not as bad as it is now at 2 AM), and the people who did close the place down were generally satisfied and not looking for another party.

Why should any privately owned business be told when they can be open? Shouldn't that be up to the owner?

Erm, i think you'll find that there is no law. These places close because employees don't want to work at 3am, and they need to clean the place up...

    • No, there's laws. Every single state, county and city has their own laws about alcohol.
