Ball gag to fix jaw problems?

I have a jaw issue where my lower teeth come up to high behind my front jaw. It causes me jaw aches and sores on the rood of my mouth which are getting annoying. Treatment was a few thousand for a permanent retainer for a year that makes you talk funny so I opted out. I'm thinking of wearing a ball gag to undo the effects. By holding my jaw open it will relieve the jaw muscles that cramp and give the sores on the roof of my mouth a break. Will this work and how should I go about implementing it?

    • No? So the pain is casued by me biting to far, and prevented me from biting won't help? Can you at least admit ball gags are sexy?

Ball gags are sexy, but that's not the point. It's only a temporary solution and will only help as long as you are wearing the ball gag so unless you are planning to wear a ball gag everywhere you go then it won't work. Also wearing a ball gag for extended periods of time could cause strain in the muscles around your mouth causing more discomfort and may even mess with the alignment of your teeth.

        • They may cause issues for people with normal jaws making them too used to being proped open, but my jaw is abnormally deep in its bite. So for me I think It will just bring it back to normal.

I have a similar problem. I have a really, really bad overbite so my bottom teeth sort of press into the roof of my mouth just behind my top teeth, causing pain and swelling. It has also caused the gums behind my front teeth to recede, as well as some demineralization from erosion on my front teeth (which leaves hideous white spots). The overbite makes me sound funny when I speak, too. I always slur my s’s, so people have to constantly ask me to speak up or repeat what I’ve already said (which just adds to my horrible social anxiety). Some people say it sort of sounds like a weird southern accent. I find a couple of times a month I have to consciously remind myself to sort of let my jaw hang to let the pain and swelling go down. I really think you should try to go for a permanent solution. It is well worth a little bit of embarrassment, otherwise you’ll be dealing with this for the rest of your life. Right now I’d get braces if I could. While they look hideous (and at 19 I’d feel like a little silly), it’s a lot better than letting it progress.

The ball gag. Both the cause of and solution to all of one's mouth problems.

    • Sweet! How often did you wear it? How big was the gag? Was the drooling annoying?

It was a joke but I mean, if it makes your jaw feel better there's absolutely no harm. Just consult with your doctor first.

i think if it works then do it but...

            a. im not an orthopedist or maxillofacial surgeon and i doubt anyone else here is either

            b. it might just be a placebo effect

            c. it could be detrimental to yalls jaw joint and make it worse

            d. whats with the sores on the roofa yalls mouth?

            e. dont they make cheap internet retainers now?

Why would u like that? Never heard a guy say they want to see that even my bf (ex) said the way I look and sound when I wear it would totally make me look unattractive to anyone else if they saw me like that and I think it’s degrading.

        • Degrading is kinda the point. Some women like being degraded.

Jup, stretch the jaw muscles a bit, but it won’t help for the long term. I have the same problem, the best u can do is getting a retainer
You can also do some exercises for your jaw, I bet there are some

    • Long term solutions are too expensive. I would rather die than wear some goofy retainer all day.

The thing with the body is it’s gonna get worse, save some money. It’s 1 year of goofy vs. all of your life in pain

    Ask your doctor

    • The option I had was hella expensive and I doubt they have ever tried a treatment like this. They would be biased telling me it wouldn't work even though it would because they don't wane me to avoid paying them like 5000$
