Bad idea or not?

My closest friend loves cats and last year she said that she wished she had an apron (she's a cook at her job) that had a big cat face on it. I have been looking for something of the sort for half a year now and can't find one that is not for children.

Her birthday is coming up soon and I was thinking about making her one instead. I have no talent at sewing so making one is out of the question. I'd buy a plain twill apron and paint some cats on it with fabric paint. I'm a talented enough artist that I could make it look store-bought. I just don't want to go through hours of effort to make it work and she hates the idea of it.

I don't always have the greatest judgment when it comes to predicting the outcome of a gift and I have my parents to thank for that, for traumatizing me when it comes to gift-giving. That's why I'd appreciate some input from you all.

Yeah, that idea sucks. 4
It doesn't suck but it's not great either. 0
It is a good idea if you're that creative. 17

Aww, I think that's a great idea. I can't say whether she'll like it or not, but if I knew that someone had went to all that effort for me, I'd really love it. The fact that you've put so much thought into it makes it much more special than just buying her a random present. I'd be very surprised if she didn't love it, I think it's a lovely thing to do:).

  • Boo!

Thats a wonderfull idea and no friend would ever hate something made by their friends. (At least Not to their face.)She'll love it and I know you didnt ask but the white one looks really nice. Are you going to make it exaclty the same as those aprons? Or Are you going to design something somewhat the same?

    Sounds good to me :)

There are transferable fabrics that you could put an image on to transfer to the apron, but I don't know much about them.

You could also do a woodcut carving of a cat and transfer it with ink.Woodcuts aren't very hard to do and you could reuse the image.

Don't know if you needed that input, but I offered it. :]

  • Who can say? How can anyone know whether or not some random stranger thousands of miles away from them is going to like your gift or not.

    Also-

"I was thinking about making her one...I have no talent at sewing so making her one is out of the question"

    Hmm.
