Baby clothes for a baby i don't yet have... opinions?

What do you guys think about buying baby clothes for a baby you don't yet actually have? Yeah, I know. This phantom baby (!) may well end up existing in the next couple of years. So it's not as though it's years and years away and I'm doing this. It's also not an entire wardrobe... lol. Just a few babygrows and a few hats. Mostly. One of my reasons is because I think it would be better to spread the cost of what a baby would need. And the stuff is just so damn cute and all of it was from sales. Whilst I'm not trying to have one now, I am committed to trying to have a baby in future, I have decided that (scary much.) Opinions and input would be most appreciated! Thanks.

That's mad. 16
Er... ok, I guess it's not that weird. 16
It's planning ahead. 17
You must be really broody. 2

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

I have a couple small boxes of baby clothes that I got for crazy cheap. Personally, I don't think it's weird. I've had a friend or 2 who have done the same. I suppose it's jumping the gun though.

See what you're saying but maybe the OP isn't that superstitious.

It's not really superstition, just an old saying really.

This is something people will generally give you and there is little need to buy baby clothes. It is silly to buy them for your own baby. I have more than my child can wear through gifts and hand me downs. Which reminds me, I need to deliver this trashbag full of baby stuff to my pregnant friend. She too will not need to buy these items.

You don't feel emotionally attached to your babies' clothes? Most mothers treasure stuff like that I thought.

Oh sure, there are a few items I adore. But I plan to put them on a teddybear. The plain white onesies don't need to be saved. And while the yellow polka dots are cute. I don't need the outfit taking up space.

Well, spreading the cost out is definitely smart so from that angle, it's not so weird. As long as it's not some strange obsession, I guess.

It would be much more normal though if you were at least to point of being in a committed relationship with the (I'm guessing) father of said baby and trying to conceive. You're not crazy, but you're jumping the gun just a wee bit.

A bit of all! lol. But mostly I think you must be really broody. I know someone who did this and they do now actually have a baby. They are also one of the broodiest people I know and they love kids.

I feel like it will be helpful to you in the future but the only thing that would stump me is say for example that I bought clothes for a baby boy but then I turn out to have a girl what would I do with the boy clothes? Then again I understand you could sell them or something but eh idk but I think your just being a organize person.

Its better to be safe than sorry. Well i think thats a bit exaggerated but it gpes along. Suppose you do have a child, and you are struggling with finances. You already have baby items that you got on sale.

Well...do you have a husband or a bf? If so, why not have a baby already if you want one? If you're single, you're planning a bit too far ahead. Also, if you ever get pregnant you'll get TONS of clothes at your baby shower. You won't need to buy a lot of clothes.
