Awkward feeling

I'm not sure if this is just me or what, but whenever I walk by people on the street, whether or not I know them, my body starts to feel awkward, and I become super conscious of my every move. Like, it feels like walking doesn't come naturally and I literally have to put effort into it. Is this normal?

This is not 'standard' human behavior, but happens a lot. It's Social Anxiety, either consciously or subconsciously, you are becoming aware that they may be thinking of you, and you are unsure of what that might be, so you either try to look very strong, try to move quickly out of sight, or look 'average' to avoid abuse.

    Look up social anxiety disorder.

<marked normal though, as many have this problem.

social anxiety has been the curse of so many great artists and thinkers; in fact, some people are so painfully self-conscious that they have trouble relating to others, but can relate to themselves MUCH more than others can.

I would, in addition, stress for you to read a book entitled, "Shyness: How Normal Behaviour Became a Mental Illness."

i agree with explosivefurry. i have pretty severe social anxiety disorder, so i always have those kind of obsessive thoughts in public. sometimes even around my own family.
