So basically whenever I am riding the subway/bus or even walking I always try to avoid looking at people. I just feel weird when I make eye contact with strangers, and personally i wouldn't want random strangers to look at me, so my thought process is not to do it. Is this normal, or am I just too shy/self-conscious.
omg i have that exact same p problom i somtimes fell wierd if i make eye contact and look a way or around the room but i dnt know if itnormal though
This is VERY normal and I HATE THAT FACT.
All I want is a little small talk in public, as is actually quite normal in the rural areas.
The best anyone manages here in the city is a sheepish 'polite-smile' and then immediate loss of eye contact.
I have discovered something interesting though... different people are comfortable with different levels of eye-contact. Some can gaze right into your eyes for entire conversations in an entirely comfortable and normal manner (for them). I have a hunch it's to do with the brain's dopaminergic system (more dopamine = eye contact actually becomes pleasurable).
As usual I recommend playing with your pharmaceuticals to tweak your behaviour to the desired state o_-
i never stare, or even look at people, regardless of where i am in public. when people stare at me, it makes me feel uncomfortable.
I feel the same. Whenever I make eye contact with someone, I feel guilty somehow.
yeap, i used to be just like that but now i see it as a bad habit so now wherever i go, i try to get a little glymps of evryone around me. lifes to short to keep your head down every where you go. and its a free country, i can look wherever i want, right? who cares? plus it turns out that half the people you look at arent even stareing at you intenioaly, so give it a try! (unless of corse your liveing in a third world country,! which your proubly not)
i do that too. i hardly ever make eye contact when someones talking to me. and i always look down or around the room. its just hard to look straight in the face
I'm the same way, and I get pissed off when I catch someone looking at me, I think it's rude. The worst for me is when I'm walking down the street and there's someone walking towards me on the same side. I don't want to look at them, but going out of my way to not look at them is just as awkward. I don't know why I'm so uncomfortable around people.
probably shy, but you should face it.
Try walking and just looking randomly.
Or just looking into people eyes.
After you get used to it, you won't even think about it beacuse its not a big deal.
Now get out and do it, so you can continue your life. ;)
Yeah, I think its politer not to stare, but sometimes I find myself doing it unintentionally or people staring at me, usually when I look at them back in the eyes they usually avert looking. I don't think its very annoying, unless they are keep looking at you and talk about you.
