When we do sleepovers his parents let us watch movie til late in the livingroom but then he goes to his nice comfy bed and I have to sleep on their 70s shag carpet in the livingroom that is nasty and full of cat hair. I asked to sleep in his room but he keeps telling me its gay.
It's not gay to sleep in the same room or even the same bed, but is would be gay to sleep in naked and spooning in the same bed.
I've seen supposedly straight guys sleep in the same bed. I'm not sure what the one is up to now but the other got his first girlfriend at 26 and accusations of being gay from his peers were plenty.
As long as you're not having sex or doing gay things in bed, it's normal for friends to share a bed if there are no other decent options.
He should have woke you up and gave you the option of the floor in his room or in same bed, or whatever options are open to the sleepover.
It would only be gay if you were both sleeping on the shag carpet.
