  • Hmm. When I post a thread I'm usually looking for advice and since common sense is a rare substance on this site, I usually don't post much.

Coincidentally: My last thread was made a year and 3 months ago. Damn.

I like all of them, besides the REALLY long comments. I can stand a paragraph or two, but not a novel.

The critical ones that hit right on the spot of all the bad.

Well I need to know YOUR personal preferences OP to determine which kind of comment to leave on your poll :)

  • trolls make laugh, some comments are helpful and clever, things i wouldn't have thought of , i like that. Also i like when some posters interact around my story even if its negative its still ok

I like feedback that makes me want to respond back to the person. I've always enjoyed a good conversation.

  • I like the caring answers from commenting users. Those users take the time to properly read what was written instead of skimming it and assuming they know what it's about. They don't use the author's sad situation to leave a capricious comment hoping for accolades from their peers. Instead I see those commenting users trying to establish a common ground with the author, then they go on to explain their opinion and solution on the topic. Only a small handful of users here fit the bill, I think.

You like people who lie and kiss ass even when they're on the net?

The truth hurts, it's not all about being sensitive and nice when the OP is clearly an idiot half the time. I prefer realism as it actually helps some of the dullards on here, which Coincidentally happen to be the users that post the most questions as of late.

      • Caring does not always equal: sensitive and nice, or lying and kissing ass. That was not the context that I meant it in.

        • You're right, it's not always the case. But more often than not it is on IIN. I see so many people praising every "captain obvious" or "everyone get along" type on here and it makes me sick. I see the free thinkers and people with bold, controversial ideas designed to make you think get shot down or called trolls simply because they don't sugar coat things and refuse political correctness.

I like responses with personal experiences. If no experience is with that person maybe some insightful thoughts. With humor!

Anything where it looks like the commenter has actually read the story, understood it, thought about it, and given an answer which may be of some use.

The ones that answer the question. I don't post much at all, but that's what I'd like. I'm a complete hypocrite for saying that, considering I'm pretty sure me and a very evil user here probably just pissed an OP off with our irrelevant conversation. So much so, that they even deleted us off the post:O! Oops.

Haha, oh dear. I guess that should help you, don't have random conversations (although you should do that anyway because it's too fun not to). I have a feeling I piss off a lot of OPs.

Seriously, though, don't comment just to make people happy. It's weird that you're trying to impress people here, be yourself.

Evil? I won't have that said about... oh... hmm. :D

For the record, today I am not evil. Today, I am just misguided, mischievous, and maladjusted. *nods* I'd be surprised if you notice the difference, though!

I probably won't, but that still sounded insulting>:(.

I am *so* not. I'm having a day off. I've even just invited you to my mad dinner party. It's not even a trick to lull you into a false sense of security. I am genuinely angelic today. :D

See? I've even detached my horns. :P

    • I'm not trying to "impress" people here and I don't make comments trying to appease the author either. I see all kinds of comments and want to know what types are appreciated and which are not. I would like to be making the types of comments that are preferred, but that doesn't mean that I'm doing it to impress anyone.

      Why didn't you vote?

Sorry, it just seemed like you were planning on answering a certain way just to please other people.

And I never vote, I always forget. Sorry. I like all sorts of comments:).

I like the helpful ones that share a personal experience best. And that's what I try to do when I comment - I try to share experiences and knowledge. And I hate name calling insulting comments.

  • NeuroNeptunian

I like the ones that share an anecdote, along with personal judgement and opinions. I like just about any comment where it appears as if the person commenting put actual thought into it and actually read the story.

Some troll ones are funny as hell, but the rest are like, do you seriously not have anything better to do with your time?

Just comment how you feel, OP. Give them your thoughts or a personal experience, that's the best way to give advice here. And if you give good comments and everyone likes them, great. But your aim should be to help the OP, first and fore most.

It depends on the question and what is most appropriate for it. If it was a question for fun then obviously jokey or short answers are the best kind. If it's something more serious or about something practical, a helpful story with a possible solution is best. If it's a hypothetical situation, then a personal opinion. And so on :)

I try to give a comment that is helpful. One that helps them understand that they are normal (or not normal) or gives a solution.

But I'll admit I trolled once or twice.

I enjoy most positive reactions. To be honest, most posts that I make are on ethical issues, so I appreciate very specific feedback.
