Artists what did you start off drawing when you were younger?

i started drawing when i was ten and in one year i started with stick figures then buff stick figures, them made up creatures, super heroes as midgets then full on drawings then graffiti and then full on paintings. (sorry for all the then's)

I just wanted to see if other artists started this way or not. so what did the artists of IIN.com start off drawing when they began?

stick figures 25
crude made up creatures 28
single focus objects eyes, mouths, etc. 11
full sketches/drawings 31
some michealangelo type sh*t 18
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Buildings and skulls were the things I was best at so I did a lot of that. I'm not kidding, by the way. Some of my skulls were really good. The eye sockets used to follow you around the room. I know this makes it sound like I'm kidding, but I'm really not.

Clowns from age 2. Naked women and poorly drawn orgies started at age 7. I'm really good a Tim Burton type shit and tentacle Hentai now. Explicit mystical women and other trippy shit. Being completely honest here

    MY PROGRESSION

I started off with some michealangelo type sh*t, moved on to full sketches/drawings, progressed to single focus objects eyes, mouths, etc., and that developed into crude made up creatures, and now I have culminated with my finest work... stick figures!

I used to draw many women. The style was somewhat of a cross between anime and fashion design. They all had their own personality... At first I just tried to make their clothes look really pretty but as i got older they became a spider lady, woman in a rose, sounds waves girl, gothic bitches, a slave and so on. Sometimes I drew characters out of books so I could see what they looked like. I also copied a few pictures.

Oh my God, I used to draw that too! And to give them their own personalities too (I thought that was weird... guess not anymore).

Hah, cool! I used to feel really weird about it to. I always hid my drawings or only shown them to close friends. Honestly I thought I was lesbian or something. But looking back it seems pretty creative and probably didn't have much to do with my sexuality.

I don't know if I would base what's normal off of me though! lol!...meep!

I'm terrible. I could be facing severe consequences and repercussions for this. I'll take the blame and insist you had nothing to do with it.

            • You will be facing severe consequences as a result of this appalling behaviour. Let me just say that I am shocked to my very core at the substantial lengths you will go to in order to dampen my mood. Never before has Tommy been so aghast, infact mortified. I shall consult with the great book, and if indeed your insults are genuine, you and your "lacky" will be set upon with most hast.

    Skeletons.

    Not like, anatomy-wise.

Like, armies of skeletons that ruled over haunted castles along with ghosts and other scary things.

I drew Easter eggs and cats when I was like 5. In elementary school I drew scorpions. Now I do realistic drawings of people and animals.

I drew cartoons as a little kid. They were usually talking animals. I started drawing political figured when I was in 6th grade. I peeked in 11th grade. I stopped drawing after 11th grade. I started drawing a few years later but I went back to drawing cartoons. I copy whatever I watch.

The first drawing or painting I remember doing was of me in a white dress and red shoes going to a pond to see some ducks. I tried to paint it so the viewer was looking down on the pond.
Dad, however, was convinced that it was a man with a white beard ¬¬. I was about 5 or 6, I think (Although I'm sure I started being artistic before then).

I used to draw my favourite cartoon characters - and many original ones I made up throughout my childhood and teens. Vib Ribbon and Crash Bandicoot were big obsessions, and I used to love drawing on cardboard (Don't ask why!). I also had a bit of an Aya Takano-style phase during sixth-form college.
Nowadays, it's usually people made up to look like Zero Punctuation, images related to James. W. Heisig's Remembering The Kanji book or whatever comes into my head.

The first thing I ever drew that I considered good was in the first grade. We had to draw in the face of a kid on a sled, and I didn't do a half-bad job considering the circumstances. For a long time my favorite thing to draw was houses. And then after a huge gap where I didn't draw much of anything for several years, I started drawing cats. I still do sometimes, but mostly I just draw random things that come to mind.

When I was really young, the only way I can describe it with is like a outline of a person, but with a mouth and eyes, sometimes hair. Most often I would draw the ground and furniture around the person. I also like to draw animals and mythical creatures (giraffe, ostrich, bat, unicorn, dragon).

I think I started drawing dragons before I even knew what a dragon looked like...But animals(birds especially) have always been my thing.

I started out with suns that wear sunglasses and trees that have holes and sometimes stick figures, or snowman looking people. then I became obsessed with drawing one thing. like first it was whales and fish. then dogs and wolves. then it was made up creatures. then it was dragons. then it was half-wolf, half-dragons. then it was my favorite anime characters. then it was hummingbirds. then it was portraits. now I'm back to (better looking) stick figures, doing things in expressive ways. I still love drawing dragons and anime and made up creatures. I like drawing myself and other people and animals.

I started out illustrating day to day life... My earliest memory of drawing is when I was 5. I came home from my grandmother's funeral and drew it out, complete with her coffin and the pews. I guess I've always been morbid. ha. I mostly focused (and still do) on people. People doing everyday things like going to the grocery store. I also liked drawing houses (I had a weird fascination with fences and mailboxes), city maps and floor plans. Yes, I was a weird child.

I've been drawing as long as I can remember, so my work definitely started out in the realm of stick figures ;P Progressed to animals and creatures and mythical scenes, to people, to anthro, now I draw, paint and sculpt and do lots of weird fantasy/science fictiony/psychedellic shit. Got a bit of a taste for macabre art too, just not as much. ;P

I started out drawing people and christmas trees lol

When I was about 8 I moved on to architecture (our house was being built and I was fascinated with the design photos)

from there it was perspective. Anything I saw. Loved shading, realism and all that jazz

When I was young, I'd draw full pictures. I'd try to make the picture as complete as possible, even if I knew it sucked. I'd draw Digimon or Pokemon, sometimes animals or people. Even though my "people" were circle heads and weird shaped bodies, and the rest of my drawings were pretty shitty. That didn't stop me though!

Stick figures aren't really fun to draw. I usually tried to draw things more realistically (even if they were made up creatures). I voted on the "crude made up creatures", but I'm not really an artist, so...
