Are you for or against cutting social security/medical/care?

In order to handle the debt crisis some Politicians seem to want to cut into the much needed and relied upon social security/medi-cal/medi-care programs...

  • It makes me laugh how, when we are in debt, the first targets are the emergency services etc. Why not focus on arbitrary things like the entertainment or more importantly fashion business first?

Well the government doesn't control those things....how would that solve the federal debt?

I personally think the programs should be eliminated over time. I'm not saying you should take away Grandma's social security check. I do think it should be voluntary in the future, or at least privatized.

The government has no right to force me into saving. Social Security is the biggest ponzi scheme in the world. I've written my congressman to ask if I could opt out to no avail.

The reason the government "forces you into saving" is that for humane reasons it won't be acceptable to let you starve to death if you have decided to use that freedom to end up being poor and without any savings.

I think it would be humane. I am responsible for my own future and no one else. The government has no right to take my money, put it into a general fund, and pretty much promise me I WILL NOT make back what I contributed. I call bullshit. If some idiots don't have the good sense to save for their own futures it isn't my problem.

  • I think they need to empty THEIR pockets before touching anything. This woman spending millions on her bathroom, the fuck is that. WTB a death note, I'd make fucking real justice. Then get killed by a 7 year old, oh well.

What is spent on social programs is a drop in the bucket compared to what is spent on the war. Id rather cut spending money on the war (killing maiming destroying) these days its all about stealing from the poor and giving to the rich

George Bush Sr. started dipping into that money (Social Security) during and after his administration.

    What does it matter?
They are gonna do whatever they think is useful anyway.
    Whether you approve or not.
Actually they'll get you to approve.
    And you won't even notice.

I dont make a tonne of money or anything, but I would rather live in a country that takes care of the necessities - I am willing to pay more taxes for this - so long as it is policed properly.

          • Math and statistics but I think I'm going to switch it to something relevant to the medical field or business because business is a lot easier. But why do you ask?

Just trying to get an idea of where your comming from re: pensions comment above. My father is a police officer and my Uncle is a fire fighter (I know you didnt mean any disrespect) and they are always telling me these terrible stories about near death experiences (them and their co-workers). Their pension is high...yes.... but it's mainly to do with the lifespan of the job; you can only mentally (and physically) do that job for so long, so they retire earlier (meaning their pensions are larger).
Anyway. I was just trying to understand it from anothers point of view.
For the record, I would try to stay away from the medical field (personal experience - a lot of bad staff moral due to working with irritable sick people all day - but that's just me - I like to keep it happy). Business is good, I feel fulfilled in my business career.
              Best wishes with school!
