Are you annoyed/irritated by k-pop?

I listened to k-pop before only in 2009 then after that it's already so annoying. Big Bang is the only decent band there. All the others like SHINee, Super Junior [oh god], Girl's Generation [omfg], T-ara, B2ST... man, I don't even know most of them; they're already like clones singing songs with repetitive lyrics defining nonsense. For me they do not have distinct styles and are just like their fellow bands with the haircut and the trying-(hard)to-be-adorable phase. Also the recent boy bands debuting are getting younger and younger it's already stupid. They're overrated (always even appear in the YouTube frontpage) and their fanclubs are also irritating. Mostly they're just composed of 12-year-old little girls who go "omg oppa just touched his ass squeee saranghae". And I'm not overly exaggerating that.

So I would like to know who gets annoyed by k-pop or who completely disagrees with me or just don't care.

No, I like/don't hate K-pop 76
Yes, I hate/don't like K-pop 124

  • I think that there are good as well as bad music groups / artists in every genre. I love K-Pop. If you don't like it, don't listen to it. It's as simple as that.

Don't get why your comment was voted down, I think its a perfectly valid point don't force yourself to listen to music you don't like and yeah its not everyone's thing but I personally love K-pop especially Superjunior =P

Wow that "if you don't like it, do't listen/watch it" exclamation again. Like that solves things. Think first, why the hell will I even hate it when I haven't listened to it? Seeing what you've typed there, obviously you got somewhat defensive if I insulted your precious oppas.

Yup, it IS better than those shitty Rihanna, Bieber, Ke$hit singers but still not that great as a genre itself.

Limiting to only the J- K- genres, I'd primarily been exposed to J-Rock; despite this, I never caught onto the J-Rock vs. K-Pop fiasco. I just listen to what I like, and what I like is a generous amount of J-Rock, with K-Pop dotted along the way.

There is one J-Pop song I've tried, and it is Tick Tack by U-KISS. Some main distinctions of this song from K-Pop are the accents and the fact that I can pick out some Japanese words and phrases. However, both forms of Pop seem to be missing a certain aspect I've grown adjusted to hearing in J-Rock: Engrish. Listening to an artist move from perfect Japanese to perfect English just rings strangely to me, and at times I don't register the language change right away.
My ear is more trained to interpret changes from Japanese to heavily accented English when it comes to these things.

Currently, it's been over two years since I began actively listening to these types of music. I don't keep up with bands as fervently as before, nor do I feel so passionate towards specific bands or artists. Despite everything, J-Rock still has a reserved space in my mind - I continue searching for quality songs, but at my own controlled pace now.

To answer your question, I am certainly not irritated by K-Pop. It's nice to have every now and then, no matter how universal the sound may be.
    Hope that helps! :)

I was a J-pop fan before (well not really J-pop because the only band I like is Arashi) and most Japanese bands would have bubblegum pop compared to K-pop which is more dance/electronic in style.

Well U-KISS (didn't know they had a Japanese song as well) had English lyrics instead of Engrish because 2 (or 3?) members there speak English fluently (Kevin and Alexander).

I understand your opinion and thanks for the comment!

If you think the lyrics are repetitive, you need to see Bang Yongguk from B.A.P and Tablo from Epik High. The world needs more artists like them.

That's how they market their songs, make it VERY catchy despite having senseless lyrics. Plus the cuteness the singers do that make them 10x lovable to fans.

I think most of the older groups/solo singers had the most talent, while the newer ones try to live up to them and fail.

I used to be a massive Kpop fan, back when DBSK, BoA, The Grace, Rain, Se7en and the rest dominated the scene. Now, like you said, these newer singers have become clones of each other, and basically if you've listened to one boy/girl group, you've listened to them all. It's a shame, really, how the emphasis has changed from talent to image.

Yup definitely with DBSK, BoA and the others were better and it's like the newer ones could be contrasted to the image of the overrated westerners in the music scene.

  • I don't listen to it a lot, the only time I really listen to K-pop or J-pop is when a friend posts a link or something.

Or if it's from an anime, "Ningyo Hime" from Chobits is beautiful :)

Uuugghh good for you because some of my previous and current schoolmates are so passionate about it that they get really really mad at if I just insult their "gods". Before I even used to force myself to listen to Super Junior/SHINee just to be "in" with the people around me.

On the side note, I like Raison d'Etre more~

      • Well, really, you should be yourself and listen to what you like, regardless of fitting in or being cool. If someone doesn't like you because of what you listen to, they're not worth it.

School is a breeding ground for repression when it comes to music and likes but do what you like and **** the haters lol XD
